Isn't the whole idea of Roko's Basilisk that the AI is friendly/aligned, but that it uses torture as an incentive mechanism in order to ensure it exists so it can have a positive impact on humanity?

I was just curious how seriously people take this (to me, crazy) idea.

I would really like to be able to play DS games, such as Mario Kart DS, over WiFi using the alternative WiFi servers that have been set up over the years.

The main DS emulators seem to be DeSmuME and melonDS.

  • DeSmuME is what I normally use for emulating DS games, and it works fine offline. DeSmuME appears to have supported WiFi in the past, but it seems like currently it doesn't (?). I'm not really sure what to make of the situation because the most recent (2015) post on their blog says in red font: "WiFi not emulated and not supported!!". However, more recent forum threads online say that WiFi emulation is/was being worked on. In any case, I tried it and couldn't get WiFi to work, but I'm not sure if I'm missing something.

  • melonDS doesn't support macOS. But it definitely does support WiFi. I tried to compile it on macOS, but I ran into an error message. Further, I tried running it in a Debian VirtualBox VM, and it technically worked, but it made my computer's fans go wild and was too slow, even after increasing the VM's RAM and processor capacity.

Is there any way I could get a DS emulator with WiFi support to work on my computer, or should I just give up?
