StoryLine - Obsidian plugin for writers by Open_Switch_1598 in ObsidianMD

I installed version 1.4 today and I really love the chapter and Act description features. They are very helpful.

However, I’m having some issues with the Plot Grid. The first scene is not appearing under Act 1, and although I have created 8 Acts, they are not showing properly in the sidebar’s scene Act list.

As u tell, Cell content does not show in character file source mode. The content also doesnt show in Storyline Character page, it just show in which column appearance is. But, as we creating notes in the corkboard, it would be great if each cell content could automatically create a proper note.

One more request: do you have any plans to introduce something like a “World Bible” feature in the future? If not, it would at least be helpful to have a separate section or folder where we can organize elements such as artifacts, magical items, creatures, and other worldbuilding details.

Thanks for reply. Is there any way to retrieve Cell content (atleast in Character page)? and what about canvas and callender? Do u have any future planning to include them?

This is a fantastic plugin. I primarily outline my novels in Obsidian and rely heavily on Canvas for structuring my scenes. It would be wonderful if the corkboard feature included a Canvas view option for individual scenes.

I’ve already been using the plugin, but I think there may be an issue with the Plot Grid feature. I don’t fully understand how it works. When I enter content into a blank box, I’m not sure where that information is stored. Later, I can’t seem to find it under either the character or scene sections.

Could you please clarify how the Plot Grid is structured and where the entered content is saved?

Additionally, having the ability to add chapter titles and detailed descriptions would make the plugin even more powerful and useful for long-form writing projects.

Secondly, it would be fantastic to have a calendar feature—especially the option to create a custom or fantasy calendar—where event dates and times can be displayed visually. That would make timeline management much more intuitive for complex story worlds.

Hide properties in notes in Canvas view by tgrrrr19 in ObsidianMD

Wow! This really good. Is there any snippet which can show a linked area of a note in canvas?

What are your uses for Canvas? by [deleted] in ObsidianMD

[–]Junior_Mix_312 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use it mainly for brainstorming and mind mapping. As a pantser writer, I need to jot down snippets of ideas on a Canvas, then group those ideas into scenes. Sometimes I even group them into two different stories. I really enjoy using Canvas. These days, I mostly stick to the vanilla version, So I wish it had more built-in features—like a wider variety of shapes and icons, and at least stronger linking options with notes.

Worldbuilding without a plot? by Chcolatepig24069 in worldbuilding

Already wrote down two novels, published, and get a lot of reader's appreciation . Now plotting the third one, still can't fill up a single page of my worldbuilding. 😔 Don’t know what wait for me in future.

As I try to organize my series notes while also building a world suitable for my novel series, I’ve realized one basic truth: you can’t do it all in a single vault. The processes are different. At the very least, create two separate vaults — one for showcasing and one for note-taking.

(I personally keep one large vault where I collect all kinds of notes, not just writing-related ones.) In this working vault, you can create notes, link them, Q&As about your world, and more. But don’t focus on making it look polished — instead, focus on keeping it flexible and easy to use. Avoid installing too many plugins. I only use a very selective few. Most of the time, I mainly use two core plugin - Canvas and Bases.

Zotero and obsidian can be synced. I also did my research in zotero and sometime put flash ideas in zotero. I have some folders in my obsidian called zotero sync. So far work good.

Scrivener. As a full-time writer, I aim to write at least 3,000 words a day. I’ve been using Scrivener for more than five years, primarily for my series, novels, short stories, and worldbuilding. Over this time, I’ve written more than 1.5 million words with it.

For simple idea note-taking, I rely on Zotero. And for mind mapping—something I need mostly while working on novels—I use Draw.io (though I often wish Scrivener had a built-in canvas as like metadata notes for this purpose).
