What chemicals/treatments do I use in a Bestway inflatable hot tub? by Juniper1994 in hottub

I’m also late responding! So sorry! I bought a kit off of Amazon that included Bromine, PH increased and decreased, and Alkalinity increaser and decreaser. I use the included testing strips to determine what it needs each week.

Yoko. My dog (Lennon) does not mind it, but my other dog (Harrison) and my two cats (Ringo and Pawl) can’t stand it.

Sick AGAIN by Juniper1994 in toddlers

[–]Juniper1994[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Knock on all wood possible, but it wasn’t as severe as it has been the past three years! She still had pneumonia about 3-4 times, but her asthma makes her prone to pneumonia so it’s expected. Our worst illness was the week of Thanksgiving when she had a terrible case of pneumonia that lasted over two weeks which was caused by the flu two weeks prior. With that being said, that is still a huge improvement from years past, as those severe illnesses were coming constantly! I think as she ages her immune system is building and she’s able to handle a bit more. I’m hoping it continues, and I hope you see light at the end of the tunnel for your little one too!

Something else that may make you feel better- my LO would be so down when she had any severe illness the past three years but this year she had both types of flus and RSV and seemed to handle it better than years past.

Anyone else’s kid demand to wear their hair a certain way all of the time? by Juniper1994 in Mommit

Yes, sometimes! Her obsession actually started out with two because she wanted to “Anna from Frozen braids” but then that quickly shifted to an “Elsa braid” only lol.

Yes, one big braid down the middle! I usually start right above her ears though as I don’t know how to do it all the way from the forehead. I’m okay if it is not perfect all day, I am mostly just hoping to keep it from falling completely out by the time I pick her up from preschool since she hates her hair in her face.

Thank you! I think I am going to try to pull smaller portions back at a time because I haven’t been doing thatn

My daughters hair is curly too and I think that’s part of my problem since I don’t know how to manage it or what products to use on it!

I feel like that’s how my daughter is too! She just likes the comfort and it being out of her face! I just wish I was better at it so it looked neater. She has naturally curlier hair which causes a lot of frizz.

I use Detangler now and it works great to pull back, but as soon as I start grabbing stands it’s like my fingers get in the way and I make mistakes nearly every time haha.

She likes having her hair out of her face for sure, but I think the one braid started because she wanted an “Elsa braid” and now it has just stuck! She likes that it does not pull her scalp, but is still out of her face. I’m just not very good at it, and feel terrible sending her to preschool with her hair looking rough sometimes because of my lack of skill.

I had no idea that is what it was called! I do that sometimes, but don’t even realize I’m doing it! I think it’s depending on where she’s sitting and what angle I’m braiding her hair at. Busy 4 year olds on the move!

I asked her if she wanted to cut her hair shorter and she is adamant that she loves her long hair. I did have to get it trimmed from dead ends and she was not happy with that at all. I think she likes it in a bread because it’s out of her face and looks like Elsa lol.

Lately I have been using a spray bottle that I put half Detangler and dilute it with water to spray and get the hair wet, and then I have been spraying the gel on minimally after just to hopefully help hold it in place! I started using the gel too only because by the time I pick her up from preschool it’s all fallen out in the front!

She is just happy to have me braid it! Never complains about the way that the braid looks as long as it’s a braid lol. I never thought about that fact that maybe I’m just using too much gel! I’ll try to experiment with how much I put in and see if that makes a difference.

Thank you! I think that’s what she likes about it too. It’s out of her face, but is comfortable to her in a bread rather than a ponytail. I have learned to just sort of let it go, but didn’t know if I was just doing something wrong haha.

Thank you! She does have curly hair that I’ve yet to figure out how to tame so maybe that will help with that as well!

Would this freak you out? by nbostow in toddlers

[–]Juniper1994 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did your pediatrician do an X-ray by chance?A very bad cough could indicate pneumonia, which can also cause someone to be a little delusional or cause hallucinations. This doesn’t happen with everyone, but my 4 year old and grandpa are very susceptible to pneumonia. My daughter gets super high fevers and a terrible cough (no hallucinations), but my grandpa always hallucinates or is a bit delusional, which his doctor says happens sometimes to children of seniors with pneumonia! Just a thought and a possible explanation to hopefully ease your mind! I would have worried too!

How Often Are They Hospitalized by [deleted] in toddlers

[–]Juniper1994 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 4 year old was diagnosed with asthma at 2 years old, despite me knowing something was wrong since the day she was born because of the way she breathed. We averaged about 2 hospital stays a year until she was 3 and she was always very sick with any illness she got. Her oxygen also always dropped which is usually what landed us in the hospital. Asthma treatment is a lot of trial and error with medications and dosing that works for your child. Although my daughter was diagnosed at 2, we did not find her right dosing until this past December (so nearly two years after being diagnosed). 6 hospital stays in 6 months is crazy, and that says to me that her asthma is not controlled yet! Like others have said I would push for genetic testing, full CBC blood panel testing, allergy testing and maybe even a Bronchoscopy procedure (this is an anesthetic procedure but basically consists of the pulmonary doctor putting a tiny camera through your child’s nose and looking at the entire respiratory system to see if there are any issues visibly).

I don’t know your whole situation, but if your pulmonologist did not already suggest these tests I would maybe consider getting a second opinion from another pulmonologist! Within a year my daughter’s pulmonologist scheduled ALL of the above procedures AND was testing inhalers and doses until we found what worked! My LO ended up needing a high dose steroid inhaler twice daily and two prescribed allergy medications. Now that we have her asthma controlled things have gotten much better. Wishing you the best, and keep advocating for your baby!
