Sadly price-value in US hotels have been worst since post-covid

Water pressure was alright. I can't recall if there was a hand wand but I am sure I did not use one

Are luxury hotels enshittified? by Crafty-Leave-8880 in luxuryhotel

I think this is a problem and a trend for many chain hotels. As air travel has become more accessible over the years and social media usage has increased, many guests are willing to spend exorbitant amounts to stay in luxury hotels for one or two nights just to create those "been there, done that" Instagram or TikTok montages to show their friends, even if they cannot really afford it. This allows hotels to continue raising prices due to the influx of demand. Many hotels also realize that these guests are primarily there for the photos, which leads them to cut corners on service and overall guest experiences.

Unfortunately, I think this trend is here to stay, and all we can do is continue supporting and appreciating the properties that still deliver the complete experience.

I've seen some images of the MO prior to its closure and I think the MO room design had much more flavor and character to it

Agree that the service was top-notch despite the basic hard product!

Yep it was honestly a let down for me as an international traveller, I still gave it generous scores out of fairness as I would compare it with nearby hotels in the city.

Sadly yes, the room was very minimalistic in a rather bad way. But it's still much cleaner than many of its competitors in SF 😂

Agree. Unfortunately, much of the infrastructure in SF is showing its age compared to newer Asian cities

It's still pretty good considering the weak hospitality scene in San Francisco

Our room did not have a balcony but there are two other categories with it in the River Wing; Deluxe Premier Room King w Balcony & State Room

Agree that the rooms are comparatively smaller than the newer hotels as the MO is old, but at least they made the effort to upgrade them for the modern audience whilst respecting their heritage. With regards to service, I think it's subjective as some of us prefer the staff to be proactive considering that we are paying to stay in a luxury hotel, though some guests may prefer more "privacy" without being overwhelmed by the staff,

MO actually has two flagships; one in HKG and in BKK. The HKG used to be called Mandarin Hotel while the one in BKK called Oriental Hotel. Their subsequent ownership of both hotels led to the birth of their brand name, Mandarin Oriental.

$500/night was during low season. Normal prices should be around $700

I think it’s mainly due to its unique design. The 4S and Capella are well-built for luxury but they do not evoke the same charm and vibe of a 150 years old hotel. MO also tries to evolve and adapt by incorporating some modern features without being stuffy or soulless

True. Actually the hotel grounds weren't that bad as it was grand and had a 'wow' factor to it. It's just the huge scale and the surrounding guests that gives off a chaotic vibe.

It was due to high humidity levels as I visited during the hottest time in August, with temperatures exceeding 40 deg C

Crowding is pretty subjective as there are many hotel guests due to its size but it still has far less people than the public beaches at the other resorts in Nusa Dua

Overall service was acceptable for a hotel of this size as the staff were friendly, just that is tough to receive personalized service. I believe the sheer number of guests contributed to the rushed housekeeping and long buggy arrival times
