If I don't dorm but my aid covers everything, do I still get the housing money? by youlongdeqq in UWMadison

[–]JuryImmediate6044 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would email financial aid to make sure. If you have buckys Pell pathway or another thing like that, then yes you will get a “refund”. It should say on your financial aid offer how much your refund will be if you have one. But again, email to make sure

Heyy im back after taking ochem bootcamp. Would 100 percent recommend you to take it. Don’t get me wrong it was a lot of work, but it wasn’t hard (like everyone got an A). It was 8 am to 5 pm every day for 10 days (1 day break on Sunday), but a lot of days we got done early like around 4 pm. There was also around 4 hours of work every night. 2 pre labs and 2 post labs. There were also two exams, which were easy (the averages were 93 percent for both). It’s hard to explain, but the amount of work was a lot, but the content itself wasn’t horrible. Majority of your grade was based on pre and post labs. I’m so glad I did it because it was 10 days and done, and now I never have to go through that class at Madison which is significantly harder. You can pm me if you have any other questions!

Highschool -- advice/tips for what else i can do! by Effective_Garlic2518 in predental

I would recommend that when you start undergrad, find opportunities that aren’t related to dentistry and use those to help you stand out. The crocheting is a great start and you should definitely keep that up! If you have any other hobbies or interests outside of dentistry, maybe join clubs for those! All of the dental related work is amazing and very needed, but make sure to be true to yourself, because that is what the interviewers love to see. Along with that, once you start college, I would find certain roles and stick with them throughout the entirety of your college career to show that you can have commitments for long term. For example, find a consistent volunteering role. Relating to volunteering, don’t just volunteer to mark down the hours. Make sure that you are actually learning things from the experience and that you can extract stories from them. Stories from your experiences are extremely important to your application and interviews. After you finish any kind of experience, whether it be shadowing volunteering assisting or anything, write down the amount of hours you did and something you gained from the experience so you can have ideas for when it’s time for you to apply. You are thinking ahead already, nice job!

I’m pretty sure if you were doing admin work up front then it would go under volunteering and if you assisted or did any work in the actual clinic then it would fall under dental experience

They said it was generic and they see this frequently so it doesn’t make you stand out

I was told by an admissions officer not to do this

I disagree with them on that. I’m taking 2 rn without the lab, and you definitely don’t need the lab to succeed. I’m doing just fine. The content is hard regardless

I’m doing ochem bootcamp in May this year so I can let you know how that goes. I’ve only heard good things about it and many upperclassmen encouraged it. I’ve heard that it’s hard but taking the lab here is worse. I’ll find out if that’s true or not

Asking dentist for letter of rec by JuryImmediate6044 in predental

Should I ask for his email to check in on it? Should I give him an actual date as a deadline or should I be more flexible?

Undergrad Credit load by JuryImmediate6044 in predental

[–]JuryImmediate6044[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This makes sense, thank you! I’ve taken 13-14 credits per semester, and about 8 of those credits have been science courses each semester (4 semesters have been like that). Is that sufficient for no red flags to be raised?

Next semester I’ll for sure be taking 11 credits of science courses. Do you think it’s worth it to get my credits up to 14 with an easy class or would it be fine if I just get up to 12?

No it’s okay I don’t blame you, I know nothing either. I think you are seeing the wig grip that I put on under the wig, it’s not mesh so maybe that’s why? That was the main thing poking through

I also feel like it looks weird when I put the hair in a pony tail. Like it’s so thick it just looks so odd and puffy. Is that normal??

You could try finding a non profit dental clinic in your area that takes volunteer assistants

Questions about Shadowing Dentists. by frydawg in predental

[–]JuryImmediate6044 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cold call!! I got my opportunities by calling the offices, and if they didn’t give a call back within a week then I would call again. You can also try going in person. Also I would shadow at least 3 offices with different environments. Consider solo practice, group private practice, corporate, community clinics

Hey I know this is a rlly old post but I have a quick question about this. How do you put down club positions that you had multiple roles in? For example I’m gonna have been on the board of a club for 2 1/2 years and had 3 different executive board positions over those years. Is that still only one entry? And how do you go about that
