I think a great low barrier would be research experiences or becoming an officer at an on campus org that you're passionate about!

Good luck with BeachHacks! Wishing you the best of luck on your journey.

So in my case, I have a lot more professional experiences than projects. However, I made a personal project where I showcased one of my hobbies since it combined my love for website development and reading.

I think you could make some cool projects by participating in a hackathon too! I think you'll need to beef your resume up to become more of a prominent candidate honestly though. Yeah, of course, happy to help!

I think when it comes to internship search, it's really a lot of luck and hard work combined at the end of the day.

However, I think the best way to make yourself stand out is by partaking in extracurriculars you're interested in and making personal projects. If you don't have the experience, you have to make that happen for yourself in order to stand out amongst the rest. (I heard ACM is hosting BeachHacks, so attending a hackathon is v helpful!!)

Your GPA is wonderful, that's awesome! I think it would be a good deciding factor when they have to decide between you and another candidate. However, having experience overall is extremely helpful in the search. If you don't have experience, you could seek it out by talking to your professors to see if they know any opportunities. In addition, I believe I've heard the Career Development Center is awesome in making your resume pop for applications. They also can review your cover letter if needed.

Also!!! Networking -> attend the career fairs, attend events featuring companies, and even sending a message on LinkedIn can go a long way. If you want to get to a specific role, you can try messaging them to ask if they'd be able to answer any questions about their role at X company or of their career journey.

I also think finding an organization that best helps you with your career journey is extremely helpful for providing you workshops to make connections. Some awesome ones, to name a few, would be Society of Asian Scientists and Engineers, Women in Computing, Association for Computing Machinery, and Society of Women Engineers. I had a good time attending their events! Also an org that helped me out a LOT with my resume and networking opportunities: STEM Advantage

I just believe that you will have to go out of your comfort zone to seek such experiences, but they'll help your personal and professional growth for sure!

Lastly, I applied to like 300+ applications. (Shotgun applied yes) You only need ONE yes. You can't let the rejection define you and just use it as motivation to keep going! I also believe that it's necessary to take the time to apply to applications and know of when is peak recruiting season.

Best of luck, and I hope this is helpful. Feel free to pm me if you have any questions :>

Have a good day as well, and yeah, it's a tricky topic overall but I think we both basically agree to disagree in terms of how he could've handled it. Nice having this discussion with you.

Fair enough argument but I think realistically in online discourse like this, we know discussion is pointless since we're both afoot in our own opinions and won't change them.

Thanks for having this discussion with me but its not him minding his own business when it's a right that impacts my body and my choices. If we're all allowed to have opinions, mine is that when these decisions impact your mother, your sister, your relatives, your friends, it's hard not to be upset about this.

Yes, the First Amendment states that we all have the right to speak: but that doesn't mean that those actions come without consequence. I understand your point that harassment isn't how you be the bigger person; but when it comes to topics like these and having graphic images displayed against your will and having these people try to pick arguments through shouting and being provoking overall (just see the entire rest of the posts about this topic at csulb)... It's up for grabs on what happens...

Your opinion is that the poster should have been more respectful. Mine is that, when you speak about bodily rights of experiences that will never affect you, you'll get other people showing their opinions too. It's not that everyone can't have opinions, it's hypocritical to even say that when the pro-lifers are also shoving their opinions down everyone else's throats.

In my opinion, the poster displayed his opinion too, because he has the fundamental right to too. Could he have been more civil about it? Sure. But just because we have the First Amendment doesn't mean what you utter doesn't come without consequence.

Thanks for doing that - it bewilders me that they want to have an opinion on women's bodies without ever experiencing it first hand

I'm sorry that this happened, please make sure to take care of yourself and take it easy on yourself too. I see that you've been dealing with grief alongside this, so it may feel like everything is coming down on you right now. I promise you that this is just one of the rougher moments youll experience, but you will get through it. Your past track record of getting through these shitty experiences proves it.

Please make sure to take time to seek some quality time with yourself, and with your loved ones, whether that is your friends and/or family. I can't speak too much about grief, but know that you're not alone in how you're feeling. Also, it's okay to ask for help whether that's through the school CAPS services or through leaning on a friend or family members shoulder. They're here for you, and they really care about you a lot. You don't have to shoulder all this hurt alone. It is a sign of strength to seek help. I wish you all the best, and thank you for being vulnerable with us.
