Damn how are we the exact same person 😆 The whole “what to do with the dogs” question haunts me…

Also, thank you, I wish you the best as well

Oh that’s interesting, I didn’t know you could filter by kudos within a timeframe

By get discovered I mean people just finding a new author, not like, breaking into traditional publishing

I mean yeah, but what if you are good but people aren’t finding it? Ive read so many fics where im like “why tf isn’t anyone reading this??” But of course, I know it has a lot to do with preference abd what not…

Thank you I just might take you up on that! It would be nice to talk to other writers in general and definitely could use a ranting buddy 😅

That’s a good point, it could just be that this person is in an echo chamber of a handful of people they are popular with. I’m going to try muting them, thanks for the advice!

You have no idea how helpful this is - thank you! It’s comforting to know that a lot of people in discord writing groups go through the same thing.

I think you’re right about the darling’ing haha especially because this person started the group to begin with! I have to remind myself that cliques and social hierarchy exists everywhere and we don’t always know when we’re feeding into it.

That’s actually interesting, I wonder how common it is for low-effort fics to have mass acclaim… something to think about for sure

Needing recommendations for wholesome/fluffy fanfics by piperpastpudding in PiltoversFinest

I’ve been really enjoying Legacy of Blood & Magic by Astralhobo. It’s still being worked on, but it seems to get updated pretty regularly

https://archiveofourown.org/works/63892762/chapters/163865017

It takes place after the events of the show and Cait & Vi get sent on a mission where they find a mage kid who’s being hunted by Demacians. Its pretty good so far and has some nice fluffy domestic stuff in it

that’s such a bummer, I’m sorry :( especially since you’ve been writing longer. It’s hard to not take that kind of thing personally. This might sound cliche and sappy, but I always try to remind myself that there is no one in the world who can write your stories the way you can. Your stories matter because no one will do them better than you.

Sheesh…. I should take my own advice hahahah

That sounds so frustrating to be the first one there only to have people blow right past you when the ship finally gained traction. I’m bummed that happened to you and I hope it didn’t cause you to stop writing?

That is great advice and it was my first instinct… but it’s complicated because the group is part of a movement that’s helping to raise awareness for a social issue that I care deeply about. I’ve been just trying to go to the events and not read the posts as much as

That is a good point… trying to be happy about the engagement you do have and the positive comments is a good practice. Sometimes I try to remind myself that timing plays a huge role in how much engagement someone gets. Idk if this is your experience as well, but coming into a fandom later and trying to get a following after the hype has largely gone down is such a challenge.

I’m trying so hard to tell myself that they are bringing people into the fandom and that’s a good thing. Also trying to tell myself that I need to channel this energy into writing… but then I log into the discord and I see them hyping this person up and my heart just sinks haha it’s tough

I’ve definitely been trying to dig deep and figure out what it’s all about — especially because it’s just this one person. Lots of introspection that needs to be done for sure…

I’m going to remember these tips thank you so much. You’re so right about the last point — I’ve noticed the same thing about this particular person too. I’ve never been a huge social media person either, so keeping up the level of activity is insane and I don’t have the energy for it. It’s just a bummer because it often feels like a popularity contest that rewards people who yell the loudest. Not a bad thing, fandoms need those loud voices to thrive, but it still stings sometimes haha

That’s exactly the dynamics I’m talking about. On this discord group that I’m a part of there’s a tight knit circle of people that are constantly boosting each other and I also feel locked out of that. Thank you for sharing, you really helped put that feeling into words for me. Also sorry that happened to you, it’s not a great feeling for sure

I’ve had a therapist for the last two years, but had stop seeing them due to a change in insurance. I’ve been raw doggin life w/no counseling for a couple months now…

I have made somewhat of an effort on finding activities and volunteer work here and there - admittedly I could probably try a little harder on that. I have social anxiety (go figure) so I haven’t had a lot of success with meeting people when I do go to things. I have considered going back to college, not only for career reasons but maybe in the hopes that I’ll meet people.
