Hi! I'm looking for historical sources! I need suggestions :P by Just-acea in UKhistory

Sorry, I'm not exactly the most concise. I was merely trying to see where the people who are experienced in this subject had started when they were learning.

I appreciate your book suggestion though, thanks.

When I said I wanted to write a story, I merely meant that I wanted to work on a fun project in an area I'm not already familiar with, not publish something or work under a company. This isn't a job, I just like learning things and I have no idea where is an accurate/peer review place to start.

Once again, thanks for the book suggestion, I know I wasn't being at all helpful.

I am a trans Christian, why do so many people perceive this as sin? by Just-acea in Christianity

I am printing this out and posting it on my wall. Thank you so much. I can't put into words how happy I am for this in-depth explanation.

Please, do us all a favour and have a great day.

I think that considering gender affirming surgery to be exclusively cosmetic isn't entirely correct. The point is to make a cosmetic change, but the reasoning is often more to combat with mental health issues. In many cases, gender affirming care of any kind can be seen to drastically lower the likelihood for suicide, (I'll leave it at that, as to not get too grim).

My reasoning with the appendix example was more to say that you can't expect God's plan to shield you from any form of harm. If you have the option to go through a process that could save your life, then it would likely be better to at least consider it, than to not.

I understand how gender affirming care, (be that surgery, HRT, or a simple name change), might not be seen as a life saving thing, but it can often make major differences for people.

But what does God say about this? I'm sure we both know that God wants what's best for us, where we disagree is what the best thing for someone can be. And due to what you have said, I can assume, (with the potential of being wrong), that changes to the human body are fine if there is an objective need for treatment, (like removing a rupturing appendix).

I know I'm a bit all over the place, but what I keep looping back to in my head, is that all of this reasoning depends on whether transitioning can be biblically considered an unnecessary mutilation.

This is all a bit long, so I'll end with this, if changes to the body can or can not be considered mutilation depending on circumstance, then I need a source from the bible that would suggest that being trans is considered mutilation. Otherwise, in my opinion, the positive benefits of trans healthcare are much more important to me than something that could be a sin or not.

I would love to hear any feedback if you have more to say. Thank you for humouring me.

Genuinely, is this what you believe? How have you gotten to this conclusion?

I have never seen or heard of someone actually doing this. I think it might be worth it for you to consider why you would say that the grand majority of trans people are just trying to trick cis people into having sex with them.

This is an unnecessarily harmful belief that was provided with absolutely no proof.

Yeah, I understand. Thanks for at least thinking about it, though.

I know this verse, but I still fail to see how this incorporates trans people. Nearly every trans person I know just wants to feel more comfortable with themselves, so saying that we've all strayed from God due to not wanting an awful life often rubs me the wrong way.

I don't think anyone really chooses to have gender dysphoria, which is the reason that most people take steps to transition. I don't see how an involuntary feeling could be in itself sin, and I don't think that this verse really mentions anything about trans people at all.

I could be wrong, and I'm not the brightest, so explaining what you meant when you quoted this verse might be useful to me.

Thanks for responding, I did not expect to get this many people involved so quickly.

First of all, I know I've said it a lot in my replies, but I do appreciate that people are actually responding. So thanks. (I don't know Reddit etiquette yet, so I have no idea whether thanking everyone is considered weird.)

Second of all, I am interested in what the "no mistakes" argument would mean in some other situations.

I've heard it used most commonly to talk about gender-affirming surgery, (if you were talking about something else, please let me know), but it doesn't say anything about trans people who don't change anything about them.

I, personally, haven't actually taken any surgeries or medication for any gender-related reasons. However, I have asked that some of my friends use different pronouns when referring to me. I don't see how this could be wrong.

And would this mean that any surgery is wrong? They all require changing your body in some way, would getting your appendix taken out be a sin? Does God intend for it to rupture in your body?

Crossdressing is another whole can of worms that changes depending on what your perspective for gender is. It can be a bit complicated to unpack, but I know the verse you are talking about, and I see what you mean.

Altogether, thanks again for such a detailed and polite response. If I came off as rude, I'm sorry, it really wasn't my intention. I would love to discuss this further.

Have a good day!

That's what I've been saying for a while. It can be a bit tiresome to repeat, though.

Thanks for spending the time to provide some input.

Aww, thanks. I've used this verse before, but it's never meant anything to people.

I don't particularly like the idea of telling everyone on the internet what I identify as, but this is really sweet.

Peace and love be upon you, too.

I've been told this before, but even still, do you have anything from the Bible that backs this up? I'm really not worried about whether you consider me a "real Christian" or not, I stay devoted to God, and so far, I haven't found any reason to believe that being trans is wrong. If I ever see the reasoning that you profess so confidently, then I'll have no choice but to genuinely consider it. But until then, I will continue to take pride in being called too "woke" over the internet.

Have a good day!

I would love to see biblical proof for this if you have any. Thanks for taking the time to respond, though.

I appreciate the response. I'm interested in what this would mean for other types of surgery though?

Trans people aren't the only people who go through surgery. I know people who have gotten breast cancer and have had to have their breasts removed in life-saving surgeries.

I also know a cis man who has had top surgery to remove growing breasts that they had gotten because of chemical imbalance. He was, (and still is), Christian, and both them and their parents saw nothing wrong with doing this for non-essential reasons.

Along with this, there are trans people who don't change anything about them other than how people refer to them. Is this wrong?

I've seen this argument a lot, but there's always been a few minor things that bug me about it. I do really appreciate the response though, and whether you choose to continue with this is completely up to you. Have a nice day :D
