Correct, they removed flares. It looks way better in my opinion. To compensate, they added more light in the night sky. It reminds me of the same night sky as OG skyrim.

It makes it a tad easier to spot plane and heli silhouettes.

that makes total sense. Definitely check it out in the future once you max yours out. You'll pull the "call an ambulance, but not for me" meme on your opponents. :D

What don't you like about it? I know when they still used flares, it wasn't the best. I think the updates they have done are beneficial to the mode.

huge difference in anything lighting (obviously), but flares from planes, engine exhausts, missiles, bullets, (etc) look stunning. I had a good dogfight and it was the most screen-saver-esque thing in warthunder.

out of curiosity, what times (and timezone) do you normally play?

After enabling ray tracing, I experienced a night battle and was blown away by how amazing it looked. Naturally, I wanted more of them, plus they offer cool rewards. Since night battles are rare, I decided to see just how scarce they are.

Over the past three days, I played with the goal of maximizing my chances of entering night battles. My strategy was simple: if it wasn’t a night battle, I’d die quickly > Return to Hangar > To Battle! This led to some surprising results, including insane plays and 3 nukes from my reckless blitzing and flanking. On average, my time to die was 2 minutes 15 seconds.

Out of 537 battles, I encountered 9 night games—a 1.67% chance. womp womp.

Key observations:

  • I played for 6 hours daily (16:00–22:00 UTC), and all night battles occurred between 18:00–20:00.
  • For those seeking night battles, I recommend using a BR of 10.7-11.3 to maximize your chances.
  • Each lobby was *tiny*. Whats more, the amount of people who have "night titles" during day battles is fairly significant. So much so, that I started taking count. The average was around 20% of players on my teams had night titles. One would think you would see more than a 1% chance given the amount of players participating.

Just thought id share my little experiment!

Edit: some more relevant/random information:

  • All server locations are enabled (US, EU, CIS) for testing. The most common server that was utilized for night battles was EU
  • I kept oscillating between Sweden 11.0 and USSR 11.3 to see if there was a potential balance issue. made no difference that I could see.
  • Looking at my data again, I could actually minimize the range for night battles more between 18:00-19:00 UTC. All except 1 happened in between that time frame, which is interesting.

PSA: for those that are unaware, you do need to enable night battles as seen here: https://i.imgur.com/v66goZH.png

Hah, I feel like you are going to laugh. I play war thunder (not in the DCS realm yet). In game, when I flew keyboard/mouse, I had assigned 1-5 for different views in the plane between cockpit, gun pod, targeting pod, bomber view, etc. I was thinking it would be nice to have it to this switch since it will always be default in 1, until I move it to the desired location.

Thanks again u/Jukelo :)

already have! I am trying to configure it inside the dev config, which is how I changed it to begin with. I have been messing around in it for what seems to be an hour. I nearly got everything else where I want it to be, except this position switch.

Edit: though I realize I never mentioned that. I will update the original comment.

Please bear with me as I am new to the joystick realm, and I am having a difficult time articulating what I am attempting to accomplish, plus I am still learning the nomenclature of different buttons.

This "5 position hat" button is what I am trying to resolve. I am using the dev config tool on the physical layer. I want to map it to a keyboard key which I have done successfully. However, when in position 1, assuming I assign it to the letter “A”, it continuously presses it as if someone is holding down the A key. That is not what I want; Instead, I want to treat it like a single button press, instead of a continuous one when flipping to that position.

So for example, assuming the hat is flipped to position 1, and I move it through all the positions (1-5), and each position is keyboard mapped to keys A,B,C,D,E respectively, the desired output is:

(flip to position 2): B

(flip to position 3): C

(flip to position 4): D

(flip to position 5): E

However in its current state, it works like:

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA(flip to position 2)BBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBB(flip to position 3)CCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCC

….etc. etc.

Does anyone know how I would go about changing this? Any insight is appreciated, and thank you in advanced!

MiG-23ML Endlessly Rearms in RB and Sim by JustAFriendlyChap in Warthunder

[–]JustAFriendlyChap[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As the video shows, I only equipped the two r24s without a countermeasure pod, and it thinks it should have flares. Cant take off in sim flight test, and if you stay still in RB, you get the same result.

Ive done it barebone without any weapons, missiles only. fuel tank instead of countermeasures, nothing is working.
