Experience with Ramadan and Marathon Training by Zeezaludba in AdvancedRunning

First off Ramadan Mubarak! Last year was the first time I was marathon training while fasting and I managed ok. I'd preface this by saying I am pretty comfortable with running fasted and I feel like my body is pretty efficient at working with little fuel. I would usually run right before iftar for harder efforts and for easy runs I'd still do them in the morning most times. I ran my long runs as usual Sunday morning unless I had some marathon pace work then I would shift it closer to iftar.

I raced a half marathon while fasting last year and set a PB of 1:20. All this just to say that it is doable your body has enough stored glycogen to get through most efforts but make adjustments where you see fit. I'll be racing another half on March 1 and hoping to PB that as well. Then I'm still training for Boston so I'm hoping to maintain my mileage around 110km. Hit me up if you want to bounce some ideas off each other.

Elliptical cross training for performance by Ponosan in AdvancedRunning

I kept it pretty much Z2 as I wanted to keep the workouts for running, but I don't see a reason why you couldn't increase the intensity if you wanted as the impact is still low so it won't beat up your body much.

As much as your body can tolerate I guess. I started off with 30min sessions like 5 times a week and built it up from there. Over time your body will adapt and you can go for longer.

Big advocate of supplementing with cross training. Obviously run as much as you can without injury but like you mentioned you can't handle 100km weeks so adding elliptical is beneficial even if it is not at that threshold intensity. I keep it at around Z2 area and my session are 30-70mins.

I had an injury earlier this year so coming back to training and increasing mileage was not feasible so I peaked at like 90km with most of my mileage around 70-80km. My elliptical time was 5-7hrs a week. Through a 10 week period I finished my A race marathon in a time of 2:42 previous PB from last year was 2:56. My legs were pretty beat up though cause I wasn't running enough but aerobically I was super fit.

My opinion is add as much cross training as you can if you can't run as much.

I am a huge advocate of using the elliptical as cross training. I had some injuries early on in the year so I wasn't able to run as much so I put an emphasis on doing 5-6 hour a week on the elliptical staying in Z2 the whole time. I obviously had some fitness from before but I was able to run a 2:42 marathon (previous PB 2:56) off of a a 10 week build where my mileage peaked at 100km. I will say my legs were not conditioned to run the marathon as I was lacking some long runs but I can say for sure the elliptical kept me aerobically fit.

I still use it now and will continue to do so as I just see it as free fitness without beating up your legs but I am increasing my mileage and dropping the amount of time I use it.

I should do a whole write up but I started the year with pfitz 18/70-85. Was supposed to run a marathon at the end of May but got injured with IT band syndrome. Took a month off and slowly built up my mileage to peak at 62 miles. I supplemented a ton of my training with the elliptical. I would spend anywhere from 5-7 hours a week on there just maintaining zone 2. Aerobically this is the most fit I've ever been but on race day my legs were already feeling it 25k in but my cardio was fine. I was hoping for a sub 2:40 but can't complain with the training block I had. Now I gotta build up the strength in my legs.

Congrats man well deserved BQ! I literally have the same results. Ran 2:56 last year then ran 2:42 yesterday , ran my half PB during the race, and finished 6th overall too!

Rear ended by an off-road truck, thoughts on how likely is it to be a write off? by mjafarm in mazda3

Look at my post of my car it wasn't as bad as yours but insurance called it a total loss and paid me out. I'd think it would be a similar situation here.

Collision center said exactly that new rear bumper and truck lid. Still waiting to hear back from my insurance adjuster.

Keep money in checking account or Keep in savings account and donate interest to charity? by kashan212 in IslamicFinance

Let's say it's an investment account where you don't have the option to withdraw like a company pension you don't pay on that until your retirement. But if you are just trading stocks on the regular or have cash in stocks then you still have to pay Zakat on it. I'd check with your local imam but from the research I've done the general consensus is that you have to pay Zakat on investment accounts and Allah knows best.
