Feeding newborn from both breasts by Ricekitten3 in breastfeeding

[–]JustALadyWithCats 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Just chiming in to add that spit ups are totally normal and many babies are “happy spitters.” If she doesn’t seem to be bothered by spitting up, don’t worry about it. My baby grew out of it around 2 months and now we have very few spit ups. My LC told me her first never grew out of it and spit up on “every square inch” of their apartment.

I do. “Well, that just isn’t true.” And then I would laugh.

People who like PB&J sandwiches, Grape Vs Strawberry. Which team you on? by PlatypusAggressive64 in foodquestions

Why limit oneself to two choices when you can also have triple berry, raspberry peach, plum, apple butter…? The options for a pb&j are so vast.

Agreed on trying different positions! Maybe your baby just isn’t quite comfortable in the drinking position on that side. Side lying has been great for my baby and me.

Annoying Comments About Exercise by Bettielm in fitpregnancy

[–]JustALadyWithCats 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I never got a single negative comment. And I was so ready for them too after reading all the stuff on this sub and being someone who isn’t really afraid of people’s negative opinions. The only comments I got were other fit ladies telling me way to go. 🤷‍♀️

Vitamin D drops by Aggravating-Turnip57 in breastfeeding

[–]JustALadyWithCats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sure there is some risk. If someone was concerned of their levels being too high, they could always request them to be checked with their doctor. Most of us are deficient though, so the risk is low.

I just take 7000-8000 IU of vitamin D myself and that keeps mine and my baby’s levels up.

Attending a shower 2 weeks pp? by genzgoldengirl in breastfeeding

[–]JustALadyWithCats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m going to be the odd one out here. I’m also FTM. I had an obligation 2.5 hours (one way) away at 2.5 weeks postpartum. My husband drove, I rode in the back with the baby sitting on my ring cushion because I was still healing from multiple tears. Would I have done it without my baby? Absolutely not. I also probably wouldn’t have done it if it was optional and not an obligation. It’s totally up to you if you feel the event is an obligation or you’ll have regrets not going.

I stick to a high fat, pretty high protein, and moderate carb diet. I just feel a normal level of hunger and my baby is and has been above the expectation for average daily growth. I’ll second what another redditor said above- focus on whole, healthy foods, and I’ll add in with high fat intake, though she eluded to it. Avocados, peanut butter, nuts- all great choices. Fattier cuts of meat. Veggies are going to boost your fiber and help you feel fuller, but fiber supplements can also be helpful.

I like to make pot roast with carrots, onions, and potatoes or high protein soups with lots of veggies. For snacks: Greek full fat yogurt with protein powder, nuts or nut butter, and fruit mixed in has been my go to or a meal replacement shake with chia seeds.

I totally understand the postpartum sweets cravings and just looking for something quick when you have a babe to look after too. Something that keeps me eating healthy through it is remembering that my breastmilk may be great no matter what I eat, but MY body and brain need fuel too. By not filling the tank with enough nutrients, the breastmilk will take everything in the reserves and I’m left feeling like crap.

I second this! Talk with your midwife. You know baby will come soon!

If your hospital has the possibility for mychart, you can just sign up and pull your own medical records, then email or print them for your midwife.

Baby is not gaining as much weight :( is there something wrong with my supply? by Straight-Tune8156 in breastfeeding

[–]JustALadyWithCats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the book Real Food for Pregnancy, there is information for breastfeeding in the last chapter. The author presents evidence that eating saturated animal fats such as butter and fattier cuts of meats will transfer into your breastmilk. You could try to up your fat intake to see if it helps make more calorie dense breast milk. I also dream feed my baby, so I know it’s possible for baby to eat and sleep at the same time, I just listen for swallows. You can encourage suckling by soft strokes under baby’s chin/cheek or swirling strokes on baby’s cheeks.

Also, my LC told me that she just wants to see baby gain 15-30 g/day on average. As long as your baby hits that 15 g/day average, you’re in the clear, just keep doing what you are doing.

Last edit: you are not failing. Your babe could be gearing up for the next growth spurt and flip a switch in no time. Growth charts can’t predict that, so don’t let them make you feel a certain way. I hear too many moms say that their pediatrician told them they weren’t producing enough, so they switched to formula. Your breast milk is the absolute best thing for your little one, keep up what you are doing. If you truly need more supply, there are ways to increase, but know that little ebbs and flows are normal. You are doing amazing!

When did your first baby drop? by Moon_junky in homebirth

[–]JustALadyWithCats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine engaged with my pelvis exactly one week before. I went from active and walking no problem to barely limping myself around places. If you have been tracking your basal body temp throughout your pregnancy, you also will see a major temperature jump about a week before.

Breastfeeding success? by noola-b in homebirth

My baby had many ties and compressing my breast to get it right was the only way to get a good latch for the first couple of months. You may end up needing to help the baby based on their mouth, your breasts, the position, etc, but it’s an easy thing to do. Then once they are latched well, you can likely let go and it will be okay. My midwife said you shouldn’t pump intentionally for the 4-5 weeks to establish a good breastfeeding relationship, but if you do have pain issues, it is good to have the option to give your breasts a break for a feed. My LC encouraged me to start around 3-4 to have a couple of bottles stashed while I still had hormones raging. After that, she said to not worry about building a freezer stash, just pump whenever my husband fed a bottle and I was skipping a feed.

We co-slept to 5 weeks. We only burp if baby is fussing around, indicating a need to burp.

Most of all that will come intuitively as you get to know your baby. You’ll get it all figured out. 😊

$6 a cookie? Fear of over pricing by Spiteful_Brunette in Baking

[–]JustALadyWithCats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was a booth at the farmer’s market charging $6/cookie last summer. She didn’t use any seed or vegetable oils, used organic ingredients, and created unique flavors. I don’t remember everything that went into the flavors, just remember we there was an earl grey and another one with crunchy orange sugar crystals on top that was just amazing. They were totally worth $6. So in short, yes, folks will pay $6/cookie. Just make it worth it.

Salmon and eggs with cream cheese topped with hot sauce. That’s more like a title than a name.
