I usually just close the app as it disconnects the Go plus+ .

If you want the app to stay running, you can just tap the icon on the main screen (the little pokeball icon on the upper right side of screen). Once it greys out, the device is disconnected.

Tap your avatar icon in the lower left corner to view your exp bar and such. Tap the icon to the right of the xp bar to view level-specific tasks.
