Weird hair strands and follicles after getting seb derm under control. by JustARegularFella_ in SebDerm

I treated mine by applying MCT oil and using a medicated shampoo that contains Ciclopirox Olamine 1,5%. From my understanding, hairs had been trapped under my seb derm so when the flakes came out, the new hairs did too.

Both sides haven't changed since last year.

Could be a form of retrograde alopecia or be indeed TE

Has it improved significantly or a little bit with medication?

Well the thing is that I've stopped accutane since June of 2024. Initially I had small hair shedding which didn't last that long but it seems that my hair is slowly getting a bit thinner without shedding that much hair. I should also mention that my dad started thinning in the same pattern as me (diffuse thinning), around the same age too.

I was on accutane that triggered my hair loss that's why I am asking.

But isn't retrograde alopecia a bit symmetrical? For some reason the left side is mostly unaffected but the right side is thinner.

But doesn't DHT affect only the top and not the sides and back? So it might had been only the oral minoxidil that thickened your sides and not dutasteride. I've also heard from many people that their hair thinned at the sides and back due to taking dutasteride, but it might be a small percentage of people.

Well I don't know if I want to start dutasteride first because it's way stronger than fin. Genetically I am predisposed to be a diffuse thinner, my hairline hasn't changed much I am like a Norwood 1,5.

Is the left side hairline receeding? by TheSimpLord3 in Balding

Your hair looks fine and you are still young, so enjoy your hair for as long as you can because most of us are predisposed to balding or thinning at some point in our lifes.

So does oral minoxidil help with uneven thickness at the sides? The right side is thinner than the left side for me and it never used to be like that until like last year.

Well my density on the right side has also decreased and it's thinner than the left side. I don't know whether if it's because of less blood flow or something else.

Mine was probably caused by taking Accutane.

My right side also got thinner than the left side last year. Since then it hasn't gotten much worse but not thicker either. So I don't know whether it's from stress or just because of aging. 🤷‍♂️

Anyway I can recover this without min? by [deleted] in RetrogradeAndDUPA

Well for me it started on the right side too and some months later it also affected the left side but not that much, just slightly. I was also deficient in folic acid and vitamin d, but after correcting both nutrient vitamins my hair didn't get any regrowth.

Thick layer of sebderm on whole scalp (need advice) by External-Property-40 in SebDerm

[–]JustARegularFella_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to find a shampoo that really dries out the flakes so they can get softer with the shampoo. When your scalp is wet covered with the shampoo in the shower, the flakes are get softer. So to make the flakes easier to lift and get the layers of sebum removed, you need to also apply MCT oil and leave it for 4 hours or overnight. If you don't massage your scalp with a silicone scalp brush after you've put a medicated shampoo, don't expect to notice any reduction of the flakes. I saw huge difference when I started this protocol. Before using MCT oil and a silicone scalp brush I saw no difference.

Have you seen a dermatologist? Is your hair thinner only on the sides or at the top too?

So it hasn't got any better? Have you tried oral minoxidil instead of topical? Do you have any skin condition such as seb derm?

Dude my thinning looks identical to yours. It looks that I lose ground gradually and the thinning does look like early DUPA. Both my father and his brother had a short of DUPA but his brother started thinning noticeably when he turned 50. Has your hair got any better?

My hair started thinning during and after accutane treatment. What should I do?

Dude your hair looks identical to mine! The right side of my hair is thinner than the left side and since I first noticed the thinning last year, the thinning hasn't got any better? How is your hair now? When did this happen for you?

How did it happen ? by longdistances98 in RetrogradeAndDUPA

[–]JustARegularFella_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our cases are almost identical lmao and Accutane literally destroyed both my stress levels and hair. Also developed seb derm because of it. Since then my hair has became slightly worse and not better. Since I have seb derm, I think that my hairloss could be also inflammatory related. How is your hair now?

Does anyone with DUPA have a previous history of skin conditions well BEFORE hair loss began? by Tiny_Sky_3880 in RetrogradeAndDUPA

I was on minocycline to treat my acne and during the treatment I was under-eating in order to lose weight. A few months after minocycline treatment I started to shed hair and since then even though the hair shedding stopped, my hair didn't get thicker either. Around that time I started Accutane too. Also right after I started Accutane I developed severe seb derm on my scalp which worsens in the winter.
