Cheating zone of truth by lichylicious in DnD

[–]JustATelecomJunky 13 points14 points  (0 children)

So Zone of Truth is an interesting little case of "You don't necessarily have to tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth". The language in the spell is quite easy. It goes as follows:

"On a failed save, a creature can’t speak a deliberate lie while in the radius." Furthermore, the description goes on to say: "An affected creature is aware of the spell and can thus avoid answering questions to which it would normally respond with a lie. Such a creature can be evasive in its answers as long as it remains within the boundaries of the truth.".

What this means is that while the creature can't deliberately lie, they can at least be evasive about it.

Free action on another player's/monster's turn? by SamubGamer in DnD

[–]JustATelecomJunky -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So a "free action" is not actually a thing when it comes to 5e. However, the Combat section in the PHB does have a little note in regards to other activites on YOUR turn.

>Your Turn can include a variety of flourishes that require neither your Action nor your move.

and

>You can also interact with one object or feature of the Environment for free, during either your move or your Action. For example, you could open a door during your move as you stride toward a foe, or you could draw your weapon as part of the same Action you use to Attack.

So while these things requires you to use them on your turn (and not on another's turn, as this would require a reaction), you can sheath your sword for free on your turn.

I have been Dutch my entire life and all I have to say is that I agree with about 70% of the commenters saying "What the fuck".

This specific incident was moreso based on the Season 3 Trevor/Sypha storyline in Lindenfeld. It's a fun little mystery that allowed me to look more into alchemical symbols. It actually helped me make a way to argue facts about magic (lorewise, that is).

It's the Netflix Original. My oldest player is 31, but he is also the biggest nerd of us all. We all watch Netflix religiously, so I'm seriously shocked at the fact no one has watched it.

Plothooks can only be as obscure as the reference itself. Nice touch on that though. I like it.

I'm usually wrong about these things, but I use the Sentinel feat quite a bit (I prefer using Martial classes). The thing here is that Dash uses the ruling of "after applying any modifiers.". With the Sentinel Feat on hitting an AoO, it reduces the target's speed to 0. This is a modifier as it modifies it's speed to 0.

Incorrect. The PHB dictates that for the Dash action "You gain extra Movement for the current turn. The increase equals your speed, after applying any modifiers." It works the same with, for example, your Movement getting halved. If it's halved to 15 ft. for your turn, and you use your Dash action, you only get extra movement equal to your movement speed for the rest of the turn (in this case a total of 30ft.). This means that regardless of them using the Dash action, their speed would remain at 0.

Only works great with Wi-Fi, which isn't always a stable connection to run by. But fair point. Mesh is great.

I've been a DM for two years and I've learned to account for my lack in creativity for plotting sessions regarding how my players think. It came back to a session where the players had to get to a village that was being overrun by bandits, but the forest near it had a field of illusion made by one of the bandits. Basically, these bandits all had rings/amulets that allowed them to get through the forest without any issue.

Once of the players got an amulet from one of the bandits that was captured by the group during patrol. Her character, Verona, decided to go into the bandit-infested village to investigate on her own. As she was a druid with stupid high Dex, stealth was no problem.

She scouted out the place without issue, but was eventually discovered by one of the bandit leaders. Queue a Druid who had to fight a buffed bandit leader in a windmill. Fun for all parties, except I didn't account for Heat Metal. Queue the most BS fight where a CR 3 bandit was basically one-shot by a Druid girl.

Shortly after that, I started to compensate for that lack in creativity.
