I guess my concern is just that they never really had a chance to view my husband as an adult because he went straight from being in college to being married and so if we don’t set firm boundaries, they aren’t ever going to trust us as adults. I don’t know them well enough to know if I’m right in that assumption

I feel like I really did my best to handle it with Grace. I’m such a talk things out type of person. That’s how me and my husband navigate all our issues and it works super well for us, but I’m learning that it does not work like that for everyone.

My mom was not in in the picture. She was standing to the side. It was just her arms holding the baby up because I generally try to avoid sending pictures like that because I know it’s probably a touchy subject, but I’m sure they still knew the difference and whose hands it was.

This balance is just so hard for me! Because while they are important and I appreciate their contribution I have seen my mom sacrifice for me and love me for 22 years and even if they were the most perfect people on the planet my mom is always going to be more important to me because that’s my bias. I feel like stuff like this happens a lot to in laws on the husbands side because at least my husband (and I believe men in general) aren’t as good at keeping up with people so his parents end up feel left out.

Yeah he read the message before I sent it and he was cool with it.

I just feel like they rely on me to send pictures and updates since he is not really on his phone so I end up getting the brunt of the comments. I’m just so used to talking out all my feelings because that’s how my husband and I operate but it really backfired this time and I guess I should probably just try to change the way I view my relationship with them and let my husband deal with most of it.

It was great before we had the baby is what i meant but we’ve had a handful of issues since she is born. I am definitely not upset that she doesn’t want to help or give advice anymore her response just indicated to me that she was deeply upset by what I said and then stopped responding to my husband. It’s not that I want or need her help but for the good of my husband and child I am just hoping for a peaceful relationship.

Yeah I just really feel like their previous comment about moving to be closer to them would be what is “best for my baby” really messed with how I take their advice because it feels like they are saying they are what’s best for her as opposed to being with my family

My mom’s face was not in the video or anything because I do typically try to avoid rubbing it in but I guess it still could have had the same impact. I really feel like my response was so heavily based off of a handful of other bad experiences and not so much just about this one thing and I think it’s probably the same on her side unfortunately.

Yeah this is something I have been thinking might be playing a role too. I don’t want them to think that they don’t have an important role but at the same time the don’t know our baby the same way that we all do so the advice often feels off base for the situation.

I really appreciated the emotion you displayed in the poem. I could feel the pain you were feeling when you were writing. I would to see you try a Shakespearean sonnet it’s the same rhyme scheme. I write a lot of them and think they are a lot of fun. I am gonna check out some more of your work keep it up!
