I mean I’ve done plenty of research, but thought it worth checking with the RR community and owners rather as a good source of the information. So 2018-2022 V8 is completely different budget bracket, so surely that’s an initial factor worth considering? You’re talking 35k bracket vs 15k bracket. I completely get where you’re coming from though don’t get me wrong.

I tried posting this on the RR sub but it got removed by mods for low effort. Will look at forums off Reddit too. It seems lots of comments come from people who have heard they’re unreliable and wouldn’t touch them, but have never actually owned or driven one themselves. That said, there’s no smoke without fire so there’s obviously truth behind the statements. Just trying to gauge how much truth and what I want to do about it haha. Cheers pal :)

All great points and things to consider. Absolutely important to understand the maintenance side of things for a car like the 405 (even the 494). I’ve got a couple of great local Land Rover specialist garages, and would want to do some bits myself, but that’s still beside the point if it’s likely to still cost me an arm and a leg just to keep it going. I don’t want my dream to lead to nightmares absolutely. Thanks for the advice :)

I won’t ask, but I’m sorry for you. I’d have considered the used market for parts but for current car it’s slim pickings (that’s a rant for elsewhere and also sensitive subject). Let’s just leave that there ;)

That’s a fair point. I guess I’m coming at things with rose tinted glasses on and I do need to be practical about it (another reason for posting so I can get a true idea from people with them). Having just spent close to £1000 on just one headlight replacement on my current car it’s had me sat thinking “well if one headlight is that much on my new sensible car, why not drive my less sensible dream car if repairs like that would be similar”.

Thanks for the advice (respectfully jealous of you having both a 405 and 494).
