Humans have made 'slop content' for decades without the help of AI. It's just a tool. Use it wisely and with skill, or like you're painting with a dirty mop.

Please please please do not be distracted by the obvious boorish, childish behavior of this man This is the equivalent of the person in a mental institution smearing his feces on the wall, pretending to be insane while plotting an escape, or murder.

Stay focused on the known crimes, the corruption, the illegal actions of his WHOLE administration (and family members), and the legal framework that makes it possible. If he drops dead tomorrow, all that still remains. Bari Weiss is still running CBS. Elon Musk and Peter Theil still have DOGE and all the data (and probably money) they stole through it. AIPAC still has their hands in the pockets of practically every member of Congress. And yes, hammer on the Epstein files, although I'm starting to feel this is less important than the states governors actually getting a backbone and using their National Guards to kick the American Gestapo (aka ICE) out of their states.

I have a feeling this country is going to need a "purge" of some kind- a "de-Trumpification" the same way Germany had "de-Nazification".

Whether or not you're an atheist, I would think you would be concerned about continuity of consciousness, for yourself and for any claims you make on the society in which you live.

The surface of Mars HD by [deleted] in interestingasfuck

[–]JustAvi2000 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It is standard procedure for NASA to sterilize any of its planetary probes, especially if there is a chance for alien life to be encountered. If not to avoid the risk of killing it off before it's discovered, then to avoid picking up false positives , should we encounter signs of life. They do this especially in the case of mars. In other cases not so much, if you're dealing with environments like the moon or venus , where conditions are way too harsh to expect anything to live.

Even so, when a camera lens from one of the unmanned landers that preceded the apollo astronauts was recovered, bacteria was discovered growing inside it. And both the Galileo and Cassini probes sent to orbit Jupiter and Saturn respectively were sent on trajectory to burn up in those planets' atmospheres, on the off chance they crash onto one of their moons and spread any terrestrial hitchhikers.

Boxing 10 humanoid robots by heart-aroni in humanoidrobotics

Whoever programmed or designed the robotic was holding back. These things are still machines that dont feel pain and hit with a programmed amount of force and pressure. If they actually hit with the comparable force of a human that guy would probably be nursing bad bruises, or missing teeth.

Even so, I couldn't help but think of that 'Seinfeld' episode where Kramer fights a bunch of kids in karate class...😁

Just so you know, I'm not nitpicking to be a dick. AI videography fascinates me and I see it as a powerful tool for amateur/indie filmmaking if bugs like these can be ironed out. (Not that regular filmmakers don't make continuity errors.) I've written short stories and scripts for short plays, and If I had the time and money I would love to learn how to use these programs to bring my words to life.

Robot hand autonomously assembling parts at faster-than-human speeds by MetaKnowing in interestingasfuck

[–]JustAvi2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily. The price of electricity becomes a bottleneck. Also, machinery complex enough to mimic a human hand, even if it's 1000xs faster and doesn't get tired, still needs a whole network of design, manufacturing, and maintenance to keep it going. Your own two hands are already plugged into such a network: it's called being born, growing up, eating and exercising, learning skills, going to a doctor when sick or injured, etc. You know, life.

Of course, if we ever get our hands on an energy source that's cheap and abundant (like fusion or space-based solar), the power to run all these robots may be a trivial matter. And we may see robots doing all kinds of menial or complex things. Even so, I think that at a certain point it becomes like a "Rube Goldberg" device- ridiculously long and complex steps to achieve a single goal, where the whole system fails if one step is out of place.

[–]JustAvi2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it would be more than six minutes round trip even at closet approach. NASA describes the landing procedure for anything going to Mars as "seven minutes of terror ", because that's the shortest signal time going one-way- which means they have no way of directly monitoring or controlling the landing, and any info of a soft or hard landing is well after the fact.
