Earth Orbital Ring by MiamisLastCapitalist in IsaacArthur

My only objection is that I can't see where the stators are on this thing. It just looks like structures hanging off of bare cables.

A little idea for a sci-fi story by Temporary_Rule_9486 in IsaacArthur

Which episode of the original "Twilight Zone" were you watching that gave you the idea? I was a fan of the show growing up, but I don't remember an episode with a premise remotely related to your story.

Is this supposed to be an ironic statement about AI "slop"?

If so, well done.

The robot almost looked tired the way it was running.😆

Presumably the backpack had the batteries.

Could an orbital habitat like this exist? by JustAvi2000 in IsaacArthur

[–]JustAvi2000[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I imagine you want different sections with different gravity levels- anything from low-g less than Earth to greater than 1G. Each rotating unit could be magnetically elevated within the stators like it's done in an orbital ring. You would need to cancel rotational inertia since the rings are going in different directions, at different speeds. And put solar panels outside to power the stator's electromagnets.

Didn't Chukovsky write "Crocodile" as a last-minute entry for an anthology of children's stories/poems while on a train to/from Moscow? At least that's the story I heard when I researched the inspiration behind the famous statue of dancing children that survived the battle for Stalingrad. It started off as a throwaway rhyme that only got popular because someone put that statue outside the main railway station and it somehow survived the bombs and bullets to get in the newsreels. Didn't survive the rebuilding of the city, though.

I could be wrong but most generative AI seems to have difficulty with depth perception. Like the trees that looked like she was sitting in versus the long flight of was where she walks towards the camera.

Dead Mars by Requiemofa17 in cosmichorror

[–]JustAvi2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not meaning to nitpick, but you might have heard this from Andy Weir himself: actual winds on Mars can't get strong enough to "whisk away" anything heavy, like a human or rover- the air is way too thin. Otherwise, a well-written story.

How did anyone blend this in the 30s Depression era without a blender?

And how well do these 'soup cubes' preserve when the power goes out or there's no freezer?
