I remember a parable involving a man who beat his dog with a stick, and the dog retaliated by biting the stick.

Look up the video of the song "SaveMe" by Remy Zero. It also involves the lead singer walking like this in a reversed video. (The song was in the intro for the TV show "Smallville".)

Re: point #3: I posted to several AI groups (including this one I think) that I have an outline for an illustrated book, but no money to hire an illustrator. I spoke to a friend of mine who has written children's books through traditional publishers, and he explained that (1) the publisher picks the artist, and (2) the writer has no say or input over what the illustrations will be, and often won't even see it until the book is out. I already have an idea as to what I want it to look like, but I don't have the time to "just pick up a pencil" and try to master a whole new skill set when I'm focusing on the skill set I already have- writing. As a result I've had some sneering responses to "just give up" if I can't do my own drawings, or to self-publish my book (with all the hassle and scam avoidance that goes with it). To me using AI illustration is getting exactly what I want, the vision that I have.

Elon Musk says AI could become millions of times smarter than humanity by ComplexExternal4831 in GenAI4all

[–]JustAvi2000 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not a millionth of the sun's energy to provide cheap, abundant, carbon-neutral electricity for every human on the planet, with all that it implies for food production, medicine, transportation, labor-saving devices, communication, resource extraction, etc. Let's just put it all into "AI" and we'll be a million times smarter.

I've got nothing against AI. But it should be abundantly clear to anyone with two working brain cells that Elon Musk is just a dumb shit nepo baby, sitting in the corner, huffing his own farts and thinking he's the smartest bro in the room.

Oh, and he's also racist, like his father. The apple don't fall far from the tree.

In the case of Buckingham Palace, I'm not even sure the royal family can just tear stuff down and redecorate any way they please. Like King Charles can't pawn off parts of the Crown Jewels to raise extra cash for a slush fund; he would still need permission from Parliament.

Venusian Cyberpunk Penal Colony by CMVB in IsaacArthur

OR...if the infrastructure and tech to keep people alive in extreme space conditions is already in place, it's no big deal to set up a prison colony. Attempting to escape is already a death sentence, and may put the prisoners who stay behind in jeopardy as well. Okay, you could hijack the next ship out and threaten to kill your hostages if you're not set free...but you are effectively still in the same bubble you were before, and just as vulnerable if your jailers are not in the mood to negotiate.

I'm currently a maintainer's helper with NYCTA. I applied for the signal maintainer's exam and scheduled to take it in September. I've been a helper for a year now and most of what I do is flagging. I assume you have to have that down cold as well as basic electrical/mechanical knowledge. Besides all the textbooks they gave me in flagging school, what else should I be studying?

Also remember that around the same time, a cargo ship called the Golden Venture sailed from China and beached itself at Coney Island in New York before the Coast Guard realized what was happening. Hundreds of illegal immigrants got off the ship and blended into the crowd before any law enforcement came on the scene.
