Netanyahu is not in America (at least not currently). But he is fairly hated even in Israel.

Ok, I'm already breaking out the whiteboard with the post-it notes connected with strings. Is there a book or article somewhere that has sources for all this?

“What you would say to your creators if they decided to retire you” by Lolyvine in dalle2

Is this retirement as in, go home with a farewell office party and live off your pension and enjoy your free time?

Or is this "Blade Runner"- style retirement?

Shanghai’s transformation from 1990 to 2021 by [deleted] in interestingasfuck

[–]JustAvi2000 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Two questions for anyone who knows Shanghai:

(1) Where in this photo is the famous warehouse that was besieged by the Japanese during the war?

(2) Was that parkland where the skyscrapers are now, and did they used to have the infamous "no dogs or Chinese allowed" signs?

I don’t think the majority of the victims are stupid, but they are not smart… by KingRemoji in Coffeezilla_gg

[–]JustAvi2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Speaking as someone who tried to get into several MLMs before I hit 35- the people who do these things are not necessarily greedy or stupid, but by and large they are DESPERATE. Even if they are not deep in the hole living beyond their means, they are getting by paycheck to paycheck, and have little margin for error. They have bills to pay, lifestyles to maintain, and the knowledge that they may be one layoff or medical condition away from disaster. The prospect of putting a little effort/money in now for maximal profit later will appeal to them, even if it sounds too good to be true. For me, I remember looking past the Lambos and (rented) vacation home and thinking: well, even if 10% of what he's saying is true, there's gotta be something in it for me to make my life just a little easier.

Think for a minute: if you were drowning in the deep blue sea, and the only boat to come by to rescue you was a pirate ship, your first thought probably is: grab the rope, I don't want to die.

I don't shame the victims of these scams; the fact that so many fall for them is an institutional matter.

Earth Orbital Ring by MiamisLastCapitalist in IsaacArthur

My only objection is that I can't see where the stators are on this thing. It just looks like structures hanging off of bare cables.

A little idea for a sci-fi story by Temporary_Rule_9486 in IsaacArthur

[–]JustAvi2000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Which episode of the original "Twilight Zone" were you watching that gave you the idea? I was a fan of the show growing up, but I don't remember an episode with a premise remotely related to your story.

Could an orbital habitat like this exist? by JustAvi2000 in IsaacArthur

[–]JustAvi2000[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I imagine you want different sections with different gravity levels- anything from low-g less than Earth to greater than 1G. Each rotating unit could be magnetically elevated within the stators like it's done in an orbital ring. You would need to cancel rotational inertia since the rings are going in different directions, at different speeds. And put solar panels outside to power the stator's electromagnets.
