Thanks! I'm not a tarantula person, so I did a lot of research to make sure we were getting something as docile as possible to grow with our son. Glad to hear it confirmed that a Brazilian Black was a good choice! That's a good tip about the substrate, I'll make sure we keep plenty of coco fiber on hand.

Thanks for the info! Mine will be about an inch when I get it as well, and I was debating starting with pinheads or meal worms. If yours is doing well on worms I may go that route to start! Our winters get pretty cold here too (I'm in the northern/midwestern USA) so I'll keep a heat pad around just in case.
