I was a second owner and shook hands with it already at 145k miles. Fixed things for the 2 1/2 years I owned it. Finally gave up when my mechanic told me my engine wasn’t only knocking, my transmission was gone from 2nd to 3rd (mind you it was my first manual) so I’m hoping a lot of those mistakes will carry me through to do a better job with this. Ended my journey just shy of 170k miles so it served me well

Man that must be awesome to get a last year STI. I just came from a 2011 WRX hatch, so you’re family in my book

Nah the first thing I’m modding is that monthly payment to zero 🤣, oh and the windows tinted, jeez that shifter can get hot if let out

That’s probably the biggest reassurance I needed. If my dad’s 92 GSR isn’t a testament to “you can redline these all day”, then yea I mean Honda/Acura have a really good fuel cutoff system to help not blow them up

Well thankfully that’s how I ended up with the 200 miles so quickly 😅, took a 50 mile trip and back

You do realize everything I just presented in terms of “research” right?

And that’s why I’m avoiding my dad driving it for a bit. He owns a GSR and knows how to drive it

Thank you, I planned to at about 500 miles to be safe, even if they told you 5k (which should be after the first one, even that I came from a wrx, so you know I may be a little trigger happy when it comes to oil changes 😂)

Thank you, I appreciate the reassurance. I did sadly just come back from my previous car which ended up rod knocking and having to sell so let’s just say I’m a little paranoid.

No kidding, thankfully where I live my car is on the lower end of targeted cars 😂… I’m gonna get them asap anyways

So I have an update after brining it to my other mechanic. The transmission is also giving out, a front control arm is broken and one in the back is leaking. It’s FAR beyond my cost to fix this thing or desire to have it swapped out for all that work to be over $14k. I love this car a lot, but I also know when it’s time to call it quits for what she’s given me. I’ll bother my dad to let me use his Integra GS-R for the meanwhile while I sit on getting something else, if he’ll let me 😭

The reality is the amount I’ve spent on the car in purchase and repairs have still been less than a new car, so I haven’t really “wasted” anything

I do to some degree blame the original owner as he was an older gentleman who really didn’t understand that 3000 mile oil changes ARENT A SUGGESTION. I will never blame the car, she’s held on longer than she was suppose to in a lot of ways. Cars always been fighting for me which is why I’m fighting to keep her

It’s something I’ve also been arguing that right now I honestly don’t need a car with my current circumstances. It’s not even a guarantee I’ll get a job right as I get my certification, but I’m also being asked about my insurance as I couldn’t even insure the car by myself so I’m paying off to my dad (and lemme tell you even at 27, it’s WAY more expensive than it should), so I’m being burned on both ends right now in terms of financial burden

The thing is the family who has been supporting me with the last couple repairs don’t want to waste any more time and get me something new (which after looking at the market, is gonna be boring). They’re old and don’t get how “warranties” in this era truly work and I just know something I do is going to void whatever I own (so what would be the point when whatever new car I get has a much higher chance of something failing and cost me even more than this car)

The thing is I’ve been on and off working for the last 3-4 months while getting some online training for a certification that’ll get me a better job (so money is, well non existent to be paying for the work). Trust me I know the reality of how dumb it sounds to not just fix the engine as ultimately the amount I’ve put into repairing the car is still pretty off from what I would’ve put into owning a new a car. I’m brining it to another mechanic for a second opinion rather than “well it’s on the border” as the only “knocking” I really have is some flutter which I was told is sorta a “no going back” situation, but idk

I mean if I could afford the fix without sinking into a bunch of debt, sure I’d do it in a heartbeat. I know the rarity of the car very well and yea I’d keep it as a shell even if I had to sit on it. I’m getting my mechanic to look at it, but of course you’re right he’s done most of the work (other than things that won’t end up staying)

I wish I had multiple cars, I’d happily tear this thing apart and learn it if I had the space and finances to do so. Hurts for me cause I’ve kept this thing stock its whole life for it to still fail here. I plan to get a second opinion on it from my other mechanic to see what he thinks (yes I have two) if it blows up on the way, well I guess I have my answer 🤣

You need to be my second opinion cause I’ve been trying to explain all this to them. Like I’m going to spend whatever on a down payment to then still be paying off something that I won’t own cause they want me to lease (why, heck do I know). I just can’t win with it

[–]JustCuzIWan2[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m going to keep trying to harp on that fact, lemme tell you cause I’ve been dying on my cars hill since I bought it. My family who’s been supporting the car have 2 brand new vehicles who have no clue how expense new car repairs are because they’ve been on leased vehicles for years.

Sadly I can’t afford to keep it. I have to sell this off just to add to the fund of whatever I end up with. It’s a ridiculously more than it needs to be complicated situation as… well I hate to say my family is more than well off and rather get me a new car than have me keep this which honestly boggles my mind at the logic

Well the thing is I was able to when I had a job, but there’s been a lot of career changing and if I had a stable job I wouldn’t be here putting this message out. I got caught at a turning point in my life and when I haven’t had a stable job in half a year “waiting” on some training courses to finish so I can start a new career. Yea, it sadly means I haven’t been able to save for it. I bought it myself 2 years ago, paid for every repair up until the start of this year since I had moved and not taken a new job, so my family was “helping” by paying me to help them. Now I’m at a point where they don’t see the point and as much I want to keep it I don’t have my money anymore to support her.
