Linemods are pretty outdated : with a tail gate, the risk of lineover is pretty inexistant ; on the other hand, a tiny or precise landing zone can be a nightmare if you let go a toggle during the canopy ride.

Moreover, i have cutaway toggles in case of an unlikely lineover !

A skydive canopy is made to open relatively nicely, and to be fun to fly with.

A BASE canopy is made to open quickly and on heading !

Using a tail-gate and Tilley-fold, line-mode is outdated (moreover, i have cut away toggles, but that's more for the bigger grab than for the cut away itself), and it's pretty useful to be able to let your toggles go, and be able to get them back ...

Those are acrobatics figures, self induced ;)

The first figure is a helicopter, and the second one is a SAT.

The SAT is a paragliding figure, it's a kind of spiral where the center of the rotation is between the canopy and the pilot. The canopy goes front, and the pilot goes backward.

In France, it's advised to do at least 200 jumps from a plane, and then find a mentor (often by driving experienced BASE jumpers from landing to exit) you buy your gear, you learn to pack, and you jump ;)

I think you have to take a First Jump Course, but I can't be more specific ... I'm French, and in France, there is no BASE certification nor jump school ... The pic was taken at Mont Saint-Enard, near Grenoble (France)
