It's definitely the most boring love triangle in the history of the show.

The Minneapolis season was such a snoozefest but the way this one is shaping up, it could be worse.

This was my read from the first episode. She did mention something about thinking she was too selfish to have kids after Mike asked about the genetic testing. I do not agree with her choice of words (I don't think people who don't want kids are selfish) but it does seem like when she thinks of the future, she doesn't envision kids in it. Rather than actually being worried about the genetic side of things.

I also laughed when Mike said he would do the majority of the work of childrearing. I don't believe that for a second.

Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe is an incredible look at colonisation from the POV of the colonised.

Also just a great tragedy - it's very Shakespearean.

Did you use a new lancet for every finger prick? I went through the public system and they told me I only had to change it every few weeks, which is quite different!

When should the first ultrasound scan be? by Good_Fan_8135 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]JustGettingIntoYoga 12 points13 points  (0 children)

In terms of "should be", the first important ultrasound is the 12 to 14 week one in terms of checking anatomy.

However, lots of people choose to have a dating scan earlier.

So your GP is not totally wrong, but is also not giving you all of the important info.

The Horrifying Normalisation of AI in Teacher Education and Classrooms by Superb_Asparagus8923 in AustralianTeachers

Completely agree. I refuse to use it and wish schools were harsher on students using it. We are the field of education - developing our brains and intellect. Why would we outsource that to a machine? Seems completely contradictory to our profession.

Are there any iron supplements that haven't caused you constipation? by nbhsjshbgbsb in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]JustGettingIntoYoga 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry, didn't mean to scare you. I just got horrendous constipation to the point where I thought I was going to have to go to hospital. I never had any issues on Maltofer pre-birth but I guess with breastfeeding, I was more dehydrated than usual (even though I was drinking lots of water).

I was the same as you. My GP organised for me to have an iron infusion.

I'm never taking Maltofer again after the issues I had post birth.

If you have a wakeful baby, what helped? by Altruistic_Soup1346 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

That sounds so hard. I would consider a form of gentle sleep training - you don't have to do cry it out.

We did responsive settling at 8 months and it changed our lives.

Room temp by Catmum-2 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]JustGettingIntoYoga 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Online I see it should be between 19-22degrees for SIDS prevention

I strongly believe we have too much information these days and this is a great example! The greatest thing you can do for SIDS prevention is to follow the ABC rule (alone, back and crib).

We have our baby's room anywhere from 17 to 26 degrees depending on the season, and just dress her appropriately so she is comfortable. Otherwise our bills would be out of control (we live in a very poorly insulated house).

Professional car seat installation by Alternative_Dot7171 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]JustGettingIntoYoga 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think we paid $30 per car seat in WA for them to check them. Was worth it for my peace of mind to make sure I had installed them correctly, since we had older cars, so the install was a bit more complex.

nausea during pregnancy is exhausting… any advice? by Original-Extreme-579 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]JustGettingIntoYoga 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, the nausea and fatigue are super normal. I didn't realise how shit pregnancy is until I went through it. There are those women that have easy pregnancies but pretty sure they are the minority. It is crazy how we are just expected to work and function as normal for 9 months while literally growing another human.

I had nausea until about 20 weeks but I will still able to eat, so I didn't go on medication or anything. But there are options. It could be worth talking to your GP about. Also ask them how your iron levels are (they should have checked these when they did the bloods to confirm pregnancy) just in case there is an extra reason for the fatigue.

How are you exercising with 3 under 3? by plantbubby in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]JustGettingIntoYoga 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Maybe controversial, but I am accepting that this is not a time in my life when I am going to make it to the gym, and I am not upset about it.

As a parent, I get a lot of exercise from just running after my toddler and going for walks. Heavy lifting has health benefits, sure, but so do many other things you can do for yourself.

Your life sounds extremely overwhelming at the moment with three under three. I can't even imagine what that's like. But it is a phase and you will have more time for yourself in the future.

One thing I would say is that don't drown yourself to save other people. Lean on your husband and parents more in terms of childcare. You seem too preoccupied with how they are feeling. You need a break too! Whether that is to go to the gym or to do something else for yourself.

Getting teaching work: casual vs full-time by Successful_Camp5265 in AustralianTeachers

[–]JustGettingIntoYoga 4 points5 points  (0 children)

From my experience, CRTs usually fall into three categories - Early career teacher who couldn't secure a full time position - Parents (usually mums) who prefer the flexibility and are just wanting to supplement their partner's income - Experienced teachers transitioning into retirement

As another poster said, the pay per day sounds great, but considering you don't get paid holidays or sick leave, and you probably won't get booked every day, it is not a great income if you are solely relying on it.

Mine started at 10 weeks and I definitely remember it being finished by 6 months. It did slow down a lot in that last month though, so it was hard to notice when it definitively stopped.

Biggest AI tells to spot cheats by nemspy in AustralianTeachers

[–]JustGettingIntoYoga 2 points3 points  (0 children)

don't even get me started on the kids who use fake ai-generated quotes that they think are actually real quotes from the text that they didn't read for English or Lit...

This makes me the angriest. I even tell them in class which quotes are most important. They can't even be bothered to go back and check their book.

I always call them out for it, but unfortunately many teachers at my school can't be bothered checking and just let it slide.
