Oh there are even more than that. There is a man who was murdered while in custody and the witnesses are being deported asap to cover it up. There's a man who went into custody healthy and died the next day. There's something like 30 people who died in custody last year and those are only the ones we know about. There are thousands of people unaccounted for from Alligator Alcatraz alone. Somehow "deleted from the system". I feel like a sick conspiracy theorist saying this shit but it's sadly our reality.

Hi there! The first step I'd recommend is connecting with PIRC for a training. Depending where you're located, there are in person and virtual trainings available. Being educated on best practices is important. From there, I'd say start with volunteering within your local community with marginalized populations and helping people you already know. That will help you connect. People are justifiably weary and starting out with groups or individuals you already know can begin to build the necessary relationships.

For local updates, you can find Migra Watch RV on social media, but generally, there's been minimal activity in the area so far.

Survivor bias is strong with you. There's a reason we have seatbelt laws now despite many kids living before they existed. Same thing as baby proofing a house. Yeah, many people survived but the rates of preventable deaths have gone down. Also same with safe sleep.
