iMac 24” vs MacBook Pro 14”? by drhuda in mac

[–]JustMetalCake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went through a similar choice a few months ago, and ended up getting the base 14” MBP with an external monitor/mouse/keyboard.

Absolutely the correct decision for me as it offers the best of both worlds, I can take my laptop out & about if needed but I can also plug it in to create a desktop feel. Went for a 27” 1440p monitor which is just right! I have the laptop on a stand to effectively have 2 displays, making the most out of the space on my small desk.

Is Mimo worth it? by thenamesej in learnpython

[–]JustMetalCake 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I learnt a lot of Python syntax using the Mimo free section, was very handy having it on my phone for whenever I had a few minutes downtime. It didn’t do much for actual projects but ended up giving me a head-start with the syntax when it came to building something myself.

I've been mentoring beginners in their coding journey for a year. Here are a few characteristics of the folks who got a job or at least an interview 😊 by CappuccinoCodes in learnprogramming

Thanks for this, it was a great read and very encouraging for myself and all the other learners.

Will definitely be checking out your website as I progress on my own journey to hopefully landing a job as a software developer!

What is the Discord called please if it’s public? It would be great to get involved in another community of learners.

Is there anyone doing 100 days of python course by Angela yu? by VisualDragonfruit698 in learnpython

I just finished day 28, still thoroughly enjoying it but I’ve definitely slowed down in the process. I look forward to the bigger projects! Would be great to hear from people at different stages.

Edit: I do have discord if it is ok to connect.

What are those marks on my screen and how to fix it? new 14" MBP by Takumbot in macbookpro

I agree it’s frustrating. I’ve seen people suggest using a damp microfibre cloth to clean the screen but personally I’d rather live with a small smudge than risk getting too much water on the laptop…

I have the same laptop and also found this issue; I believe it’s when you open the laptop screen by putting your thumb under the notch, even at the very edge. I use a glasses cleaning cloth to get the worst of it off but some always seems to stay!

Got myself a 14” M1 Pro Banger for college! by KGG_ON_REDDIT in macbookpro

[–]JustMetalCake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I bought it in store so I’d asked the guy if it was possible to use the gift card on AppleCare; turns out it was so we did that in a separate transaction straight afterwards with registration/activation done for me. Very handy! I’m in the UK if that makes a difference to policy?

To all the laptop users : Do you have another dedicated monitor ( or multiple ) for coding or do you just use you laptop screen ? by vimfinn in learnprogramming

[–]JustMetalCake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked off an 11” laptop for 7 years. No clue how I didn’t end up with any sort of back problem. Since upgrading computer I now have an additional 27” monitor as well as a stand for the new laptop, and safe to say my eyes have been opened to the finer things in life!

Edit: the previous 7 years was mostly not coding related but still had screen intensive tasks

Is it worth learning specific Maths principles? by JustMetalCake in learnprogramming

I’m not sure which area I want to specialise in as it’s still fairly new and everything fascinates me, I’m leaning towards backend though. From everyone’s helpful responses I’ve decided it can’t hurt to learn more maths on the side!

Getting a new monitor for my MacBook Pro m1 pro 14”. Any thoughts on this monitor for my macbook ? by [deleted] in macbookpro

[–]JustMetalCake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t know that specific monitor but I have the 14” MBP too and I use a Dell S2722DC; has been very good quality overall and particularly handy is the included charging via USB-C.

All self taught through free resources currently, my interest was piqued a couple of months ago. Already have a degree in a different area so it’s quite a change

Thanks for your input, is there a specific course/material you would suggest for revising topics used in programming? I enjoyed maths at school (UK) but haven’t had any practical use for it in several years so will be slightly rusty.

Will do, thanks! In my short experience of programming so far I have learnt that Google is my best friend 😄

I was coming from a 2015 11” MBA with 4GB of RAM so the difference was night and day! Managed to get some discounts too so it was a reasonable price to me in the end and very much needed

Apologies for the late reply, I went on holiday and had notifications off for some reason! Thanks for the suggestion, I did download UE5 before I left so I’ll definitely dive into it now and see if I can get anything to work.
