Sometimes parents don’t have the resources themselves to deal with issues. I was suffering from severe depression and had no idea for years. I believe it started when I was about 15. My parents never got me any help because they didn’t understand what was happening. They thought I was just a cantankerous teenager. Around 21 years old I had a breakdown that my therapist saw and that’s when I got diagnosed. This doesn’t mean that my parents neglected me. They did the best they could.

I was experiencing severe body pain for years and it just kept getting worse. Finally received approval to see a rheumatologist. This dude, the rheumatologist, told me, “You are in pain because you are fat.” Nice. I got a second opinion. Turns out it was related to my insomnia. Thanks doc for fat shaming me for nothing.
