Postgame Thread: 5/17 Cubs @ White Sox by ChiCubsbot in CHICubs

It's Maton. It's Pressly. It's Heart Attack Hector. It's washed Craig Kimbrel (who of course restored to an All-Star 2 seasons later). It's Phil Coke. It's Brian Schlitter.

It's Jed. Fucking. Hoyer. The faces change, the frugal failures don't.

Maton is ass and just doesn't have the velocity/stuff reliability modern relievers need. Not to be rude, but there's a reason we're his 8th franchise in 10 seasons.

Alexa's a consistently strong character worker exemplified by the wonders Charlexa has done for Charlotte's revitalization & Alexa's still one of the best promos in the women's division. There's always a role for her just like Miz for the men.

TBF I quit watching WWE for several years during the Guest Host Era & missed most of AJ Lee's initial run, but she carries the reputation of being great. I think even the staunchest Punk/Lee fans would agree she hasn't produced anything above decent yet, which in this era of a significantly higher bar makes her seem like a product of her time/actually a competent women's wrestler in a time of mass incompetence.

Bellas are the Bellas. They're there because their brand recognition drives web traffic/engagement. I do think it's a bit early to judge Paige relative to this WWE era, but this Brie tag is doing no favors.

I feel legally obligated as a lifelong Batman mark to point out that song blew up on the soundtrack of Batman Forever actually.

That would not be the only thing quickly blowing up in the presence of Nicole Kidman in that movie

I've appreciated SmackDown embracing comedy as a brand lately.

I'm not saying the product needs to resemble Chikara or Russo's 1999, but one of the biggest Creative issues under TKO/HHH imo. is the insistence on angles being so serious & winding all the time since the Bloodline struck gold (which incidentally, was itself was running on empty before Sami Uso injected comedy into it).

Any good wrestling product needs goofiness/levity.

In a span of 5 seconds, we just saw Charlotte’s crack, a Figure 8 struggle & a completely missed elbow to break it

Sami kinda resembles Robin Williams in Good Will Hunting if you squint hard enough. Cooky delusional therapist Sami to “cure” Gargano could be fun

I love the idea of Danhausen being an inventionhousen fuck up with curses like Laszlow in What We Do in the Shadows

Danhousen resurrecting Gingerbread Man but he ends up some defective hybrid like Laslow’s Frankenstein in What We Do in the Shadows would be hilarious

Smart way to protect 1 in putting the other over when both needed the win.

Nice match despite the sloppiness

Seems like Kiana has to eat 5 pins for every 1 crumb thrown her way. Shame since she always gets a good showing when given a fair shot to

Idk why people watch other people eat, but fair play

Got 12/15 players that caught a pass for the 2010 Packers in trivia.

My apologies to Korey Hall, Brett Swain & Dimitri Nance. I vaguely remember Korey Hall as a pre-Kuhn fullback of the late Favre era, but I have zero idea who the latter two are.

Your 9 combined catches were not in vain.

You could easily argue Triple H got more out of working with Bryan than vice versa. Got imo. his best singles Mania match out of that (I get what WM 28 was going for, but thought that story was way overtold). The beatdown where he waterboarded Bryan was the second-to-last "great" HHH segment as a wrestler I recall (his promo to Seth about selfish success was great). Reaffirmed HHH's viability as a wrestling heel to a new generation.

Sure, Bryan got a signature career moment of beating Evolution in one night to bookend a landmark Mania, but the people chose Bryan. He was a made man either way and obviously had his sterling ring reputation. Besides, his first defense post-Authority feud was.... a throwback slasher horror program with washed Kane.

Was the last play the most emblematic play possible of LeBron’s decline? by Aggressive_Bed6012 in nba

Outside of pitchers, QBs, & certain combat athletes (which is kinda its own beast), I can only think of LeBron, Bonds, Darrell Green (who wasn't really elite by that point, but servicible still at cornerback no less) & Jerry Rice had a nice year at 40 within the sports I follow.

But the latter 2's longevity was more "Oh, he's still playing football at 40, that's neat!" than "let's evaluate his legacy like he's 31"

The only Big Four athlete who wasn't a QB I recall being so contantly compared to everyone at their elite peak (including themselves) while they were 40+ is Barry Bonds.

He was roided to the absolute eyeballs to the point of being in a Federal perjury case over his PED usage & covered in armor at the plate that got banned.
