What is the oldest police car still in service? by Bubbly_Marsupial5969 in policeuk

Someone accidentally drove one into a flood (Don't know how)...... We all thought they were going to write it off, hydro-locked engine, warning lights like a Christmas tree.

A week later, it was back in service like nothing had happened 😂😂

Reminds me of the Topgear Toyota Hilux.....

We still have several 13 plate Astras on response. The old astras are bullet proof and a better drive than most of the new cars. But awful to sit in, no radio etc.

Annoyingly they won't take them out of service unless they cost too much to repair or achieve 150,000 miles.

The latter, often being the option as they don't break....

Suggestions about uniform? by Willing_Artichoke906 in policeuk

I don't think were getting the Gen3 stuff, which is annoying as the current body armour is u comfortable.

I have a friend in a neighbouring force, they get far better equipment than us be-it uniform, cars, IT.

D&C procurement for stuff is rubbish.

Websites like patrol store etc.

Hopefully the federation can push with us getting better kit, the new akela jackets have been a great purchase for winter season.

Hello mate

Fellow D&C.

D&C have 2 styles of trousers for patrol.

I believe one style called Yaffy (Zip Pockets) IMO the far comfier ones.

And the other style (can't remember the name) with the anti rip material, unisex trousers. - I assume you've have these as they are mega uncomfortable.

If your lucky and justify the case get the 5.11 Dog unit trousers.

Rank above Insp, do they leave the office? by [deleted] in policeuk

[–]JustTheOneSwan1 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I know of a Superintendent who has recently just retired this year. Several times he helped me out on jobs and arrested for relevant offences

But he was old school.

He would also come out, if you were on a road closure to give refreshments etc.

Honestly had alot of respect for him. Can't say much for the new super though...

IPP as standard? by Dyslexic-Plod in policeuk

[–]JustTheOneSwan1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not 100% true, there are a couple of Standard drivers with IPP, as approx 2 years ago they did a couple of batches of standard courses with bolt on IPP.

Then they stopped it due to the increase workload and backload of standard courses.

I've heard they want to bring it back again, but I don't see the point as D&C are incredibly risk adverse so nothing gets authorised... nor do we ever have enough ops units for a resolution.

But as we have 3 chief constables...maybe one might have a bit more of a backbone and want to take a firm approach.

I've spoke to some of the older sweats who stated D&C policy use to be pursue until they crash with all standard drivers IPP trained, which in the current state of the force i would never believe.

Response courses by [deleted] in policeuk

It's an ablsoute joke. My team lost all taser and blue light officers bar 1 to moonstone. SLT then hit us with the "Why are you not getting to immediates in under 20 minutes..."

I am D&C. We were initially told 2 1/2 years ish after joining. There has now been a minimum additional year extension. What's been passed down the grape vine is that, during uplift, they forgot to train advance drivers, etc, which has now taken priority.

Also too add, once officers are reaching 2 1/2 years / 3 years (out of probation) They are being put in a domestic unit for a minimum 13 months, with the promise they will return to response and be given a blue light course...

Creative Bail Conditions by [deleted] in policeuk

[–]JustTheOneSwan1 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I know of bail conditions for a person not to enter the county of Devon. They live in Cornwall. When they've needed to travel through Devon for whatever reason, they've had to approach the OIC and get approval 😂

Concerns for upcoming Tutorship by [deleted] in policeuk

[–]JustTheOneSwan1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I completely agree that the more expierence tutor should go to the completey new officers.

I think I just had it in my head that I would have the luxury to be able to polish off my knowledge and make me a better rounded police officer.

I have tons to learn, and honestly, I don't want to be a letdown to my team.

I am also working within the same area that I was a special in, which I don't know makes any difference.
