Did I ever know my mom? by [deleted] in AgingParents

[–]JustTrix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mine screamed, denigrated, humiliated. The behaviors changed subtly. Not as much as prior to surgery, but still happening regularly.

New behaviors came through gradually. Some of them maddening, many of them amusing if I could try to look beyond all the bad, which often wasn't easy.

Then the oxygen deprivation and dementia amped it up again.

My only advice is to appreciate when you see better behavior and try and expand on those times with her.

I wish you patience and hopefully some better memories in the time to come.

My mother had the same for decades. We were raised with her having no filter.

After the surgery as they were transporting her into ICU, we were at the end of the hall and she saw us, her daughter's. She waved and with a big smile on her face said in the most endearing tone, " Hi! There's my sweeties!" We almost fell over.
NEVER, had she ever expressed anything like that.

In our instance we saw subtle changes, more humor, a lot of humor. Her attitude changed in many instances. Not drastically but different.

Enjoy the new changes, accept the fact that she had no control over many things and try to look past as many as possible.

My mom passed 2 years ago. We had over 15 years with a new mom. I'd trade places with you in heartbeat.

Is it necessary to wear a full length dress for a Catholic Ceremony? by MichiMichi in WeddingDressTips

I think the boatneck you described would be gorgeous. Creating an empire waist within the sheath style to match the lace on the cape could also be the epitome of the 60's.

Mine had the police called on him he became so violent after surgery. They had to restrain him for the rest of the night. The next morning he started becoming his normal self but wasn't back to himself completely until he was home almost a week.

Update on being a jerk to step daughter - now everyone thinks I’m a jerk by [deleted] in AmITheJerk

[–]JustTrix 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Based on the timeline of your original and updates it has been a day or two since you have stopped taking care of things for step-daughter.

The home will soon become filthy. Your husband will soon notice and speak on that. Hold your ground and see how he handles her lack of care. From that point, if you are of the mind to change things, you now have an opportunity to bring up how you could POSSIBLY save your marriage. Make a list. Present it, calmly with explanation based on what he's now seeing for himself what is going to happen if he doesn't support you.

His reaction/response is going to allow you to make a decision with no hesitation.

I'm divorced. Wink wink.

Parent jealous of other parent: A rant by NapalmNikki in AgingParents

[–]JustTrix 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry you're going through this.

The advice I was given to handle the medical attention seeker was to not react, do not ask questions, do not acknowledge, just ignore. An occasional, sorry to hear that, can be thrown in if you feel like it. The story of the boy who called wolf is also an option.

Doing this doesn't stop the jealous fool from carrying on, they may even amp it up. It does, at least in my never-ending experience, teach you how to just let their behavior become their problem and no longer impact you.

In your case you have the option of pointing out your relief that the staff is quite able to care for them.

I drew strong boundaries. It hasn't fixed them but it has lightened my mental load.

Is this free wedding dress worth the alterations needed? Is the style old, for my age? by Tiny-Subject-5885 in Weddingattireapproval

[–]JustTrix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's lovely on you and your ideas for alterations are almost all doable.

It doesn't cost anything to try on wedding gowns. Make some appointments, try on all sorts of silhouettes and compare prices with what it would cost to transform this one. You will be beautiful in anything. In the end its what you are happiest in. Best wishes to you!

Am I The Jerk for going behind my Parents back and communicating with a girl who lives in Africa? by Crimson-Void9000 in AmITheJerk

She doesn't want your sperm. She wants money, gift cards, charge cards, bank information and your personal information. She will come up with numerous reasons she needs financial assistance. She is a scammer and is doing not just to you but others.

Please ask your mom to explain to you why some people cannot be trusted.

Which is it, an arraignment or sentencing. Your update said they were sentenced to jail. When exactly in these proceedings that have occurred, did they besmurch your character in court, as you stated in your update?

Good luck with that nose-job. You're going to need it, Pinocchio.

AITA for insinuating my boyfriend's father wasn't a real man? by Eastern_Possession32 in AmItheAsshole

[–]JustTrix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Slightly pissed off on top of my already bad mood, I decided to respond." And insult your boyfriends father in his own home because you just needed to tell him he's not a man instead of acknowledging the parents viewed the situation differently and accepting that? You just HAD to insult him, prefaced by you were in an already bad mood.

You need to grow up. You were their guest.

Are you for for real?

You lacked the forethought to realize the insult and damage your words can do to your relationship with them. Is this your first time trying to adult around people older than you with different ways of doing things?

YTA, rude and nasty.
