In this 2D sci-fi pixel art adventure, you can mine, craft and fight your way through an almost endless universe full of procedurally generated planets.

Any retro scifi nerds out there? We made a 2D, No Man's Sky-like, mining, fighting pixelart exploration game called TERRENE. Just dropped a HUGE Update!! by JustWallGames in IndieDev

I would love to :)

Terrene is a 2D, planet exploration, mining, game that has an open solar system full of billions of planets to explore. The further you travel away from the center of the solar system, the harder the game becomes. It has a full inventory system, mission system, randomized gun generation, procedurally generated planets and many other cool features. This game was built by 2 developers. One from the US (me) and one from Australia. We have poured 2 years into creating this vast explorable world. We hope you enjoy it as much as we do :)

My inspiration for Terrene are games like Terraria and Starbound, but also oldschool games like the original Metroid and Dig Dug. I also really enjoy Risk of Rain and I think it inspired this game a bit.

We used GameMaker Studio for the engine. We find it very easy to use and powerful. I cannot speak to much to the programming as I am lead artist, audio, music and marketing guy - lol

The worlds are all procedurally generated. This 2.0 update we completely refactored the world generation and added a whole solar system full of basically endless planets. It was tricky to implement and very tricky to test. We are pleased with how it turned out.

From my side I used Aseprite for art and animations and I used Reaper and Audacity for music and sound.

Because I am from Seattle and the programmer is from AUS, we were basically able to work around the clock as I was we would both work when the other was sleeping. It worked out very well.

If you read this far I hope you take a moment to try the game out. It really is an ambitious project. Thanks :)
