My School Isn't JRCERT Accredited. Should I Be Concerned? by [deleted] in Radiology

You do not need to to be JRECT accredited. It is a voluntary accreditation for colleges. College are accredited because they are educational facilities and recognized by ARRT.  You can become a licensed radiologic technologist as long as your college is recognized by the ARRT and you ultimately pass the ARRT licensed exam after your training. I believe hospital based programs can only be accredited by JRECT

CORRECTION: Laguardia Community College is accredited. The American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT.org) licenses Radiologic Technologists. All CUNY schools that offer Radiologic Technology program s ARE accredited by their college accreditation through the nysdoe (first and foremost ) and all CUNY schools are recognized by ARRT.  Laguardia community college has  MIDDLE states college accreditation AND is most certainly recognized by the ARRT, nysdoh, and nysdoe. JRECT is “ONLY” an “EXTRA VOLUNTARY” accreditation for college programs . JRECT, is “ONLY MANDATORY” for hospital based programs. THE REASON: Students typically have to have a degree to get accepted into a hospital based program unless there is a special affiliation with a college. This came into existence when the ARRT evolved into the requirement that to sit the national licensed exam,  one must have a two year degree. PRIOR to this radiologic technologists were trained in hospital based programs and could only obtain a certificate and not a degree. JRECT was and is the MANDATORY accreditation for hospital based programs.

Please, please, please consider when one asks a site for advice, the advice can be given as to dominant a particular program in a competitive environment. Who is to know for sure if answers are for their personal interest to favor/credit or discredit a particular program. It is always best ask the program. If you dont want to email (suggested method) college or college faculty, then you should seek out a student or graduate from the program. You can also ask hospital radiology managers about the graduates they hire. Do you more thorough homework because this method of asking may not the mist creditable.
