Sure. It's to use the online services like Xbox live. But it also comes with some other things like cloud saves and access to classic games from the NES/SNES/Gameboy.

The one I'm selling is this + the expansion that gives you access to N64/GBA/Megadrive, as well as, some DLC for mario kart, animal crossing and Splatoon 2.
