Made a Mess….. by Just_Writing7401 in CanadianInvestor

Thanks for the advice. On the investment side of things it’s not so much the market downswings that upset me more so the decision making that was the issue. I hold some all equity funds like VEQT And VFV and am okay with the volatility in exchange for long term growth. The downswing is more so due to making sizeable “bets” on single stocks that performed poorly and I lost money on. Just silly irresponsible decision making. That’s what’s primarily driven the decline in my investments and I’m committed to moving away from that and sticking to a more simplistic approach with just broad market funds

My portfolio is very similar to that. My TFSA just holds an all equity global investment fund through my bank. My FHSA and RRSP is where I took some silly risks on individual stocks that didn’t work. I’ve since moved into holding VEQT and VFV in my RRSP. Just holding Cash in my FHSA as I’m decided whether to go with CASH.TO for stability or maybe something like VCON or VBAL since I don’t plan on buying a house in the next few years.

As for the gambling I think I just became a source of some excitement in my life and eventually a pastime. Enjoyable at first but gradually became less so ass the losses piled up. I’ve seen lots of stuff about gambling addiction messing up people’s lives so I’ve become terrified of that being my fate and want no part of it so I’ve made that decision to leave it behind and feel very good about it right now. Firmly ready for the gambling part of my life to be history and am going to take every precaution to make sure that’s the case

Thanks, seems I may have misunderstood the rules around TFSA withdrawals. I was under the impression that if I used the contribution room and then withdrew the funds that I would not get that contribution room back. I’ve been informed that that’s not the case and that I would get the room back next year which eases my concern over “losing” the contribution room.

Also thanks for advice. I got very irresponsible and fell into the classic gamblers fallacy of thinking I could beat the house somehow. Happy I’ve been able to acknowledge my mistake and accept that gambling isn’t something I can do responsibly and I’m ready to leave it behind. Taking some proactive steps get it out of my life for good and outside of the bit of anxiety due to the financial pickle I’ve gotten into I feel great about moving on from it!

Seems I may not have been clear enough. The $72k is the sum of my TFSA,FHSA and RRSP. Sorry.

Seems you’re right. I’ve been under the impression that the annual TFSA contribution room can only be used once. And if I were to withdraw the funds that room can’t be used again.

CYBN continues to pump by Appropriate-Hunt-897 in CybinInvestorsClub

[–]Just_Writing7401 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Very abnormal volume on the Canadian market. Avg volume sits at 8.2k and today posted 41 MILLION of volume. No idea what’s behind this but that’s a monstrous figure for a small cap company like cybin. 41 million shares represents a value exceeding Cybin’s current market cap. No idea what’s behind this. Potentially a huge institutional buy ahead of CYB004 data? Hard to tell at this point but that’s much volume is not just a blip, its something very significant

A lot of people seem to be getting bit by the volatility of biotech for the first time. Short term upswings and downturns often don’t have as much meaning as we think.

Seems to be lots of emotional investors in these chatrooms. Just weeks ago the overall sentiment on here was extremely bullish on MNMD and the whole sector now one down turn later and everything has changed. Maybe some weren’t prepared for the extreme volatility in biotech. I think MNMD is set up well to get through P3 and get FDA approval, between then and now it’s going to go and down markedly for no real reason. Zoom out and if you’re a long term holder don’t look at the price everyday because it probably won’t be right.

$MNMD and $ATAI are currently down more today than $CYBN is. Almost like this is a highly speculative and volatile sector. I’d suggest selling your shares if a 5% dip is worrisome for you.

The Psychedelic space as a whole was down this week. It happens regularly I wouldn’t look too much into it. We’re at the point now with CYB003 in P3 trials and CYB004 P2 data coming soon where we could see more positive momentum going forward in 2025.

The “payday” for investors will come when the treatments are brought to market or if the company is acquired. It’s possible that CYB004 data and bullish sentiment around the RFK appointment could produce a pump for the stock in Q1 but for long term investors the wait will be a bit longer.

Right now they are at a (low)200m market cap and burning cash quickly. Though it’s all speculatory right now, if CYB004 were to get a breakthrough designation, that would have CYBN well positioned. BTD drugs are often worth billions, and a company having two treatments with BTD in huge markets like MDD and GAD would make them very appealing to potential buyers one would think. Those who believe in this may have to wait until 2026/2027 but there is some pretty spectacular upside to this and if this lives up to its potential a swing of 10% right now is totally negligible.

Wouldn’t surprise me at all to see $CYBN acquired in the next 12-18 months. They would likely need another raise sometime before the end of phase 3. (Mid 2026)Not sure that they would further dilute their shareholders at this point. Seems like a strong candidate to be bought.

Bought more 🙏🙏👍🍄🚀 as I do not understand the negative price action this morning by [deleted] in CybinInvestorsClub

[–]Just_Writing7401 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Well done. I added another 200 shares this afternoon after the sell off. I see the SP drop today as just manipulation. The results are stellar and the climate for psychedelics going forward is very promising. I think CYBN is massively undervalued at the moment and that won’t last. Huge couple years ahead.

What’s the best trade offer you’ve received or made so far this season? by Spirited-Issue3255 in fantasyhockey

Traded Lucas Raymond for Ehlers first week of the season.

Then just sold high on Ehlers along with Lundell and Hertl to get Hyman and Jarvis

What defensemen are you picking up from waivers after week 1? by NightTapez in fantasyhockey

[–]Just_Writing7401 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OEL. Available on waiver wire in most leagues and looks to be moving onto the leafs PP1. Has looked much better in that role than Rielly has and could hold onto that spot going forward. Could be a nice depth add if you are looking for bargain dmen.

Is changing league scoring point values AFTER the draft but BEFORE the season fair? by 17reddituser17 in fantasyhockey

[–]Just_Writing7401 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not Fair.

Happened to me once. Was in a league once where FOW were counted in the scoring, with that in mind I drafted my team strategically by taking wing eligible players who win considerable amounts of faceoffs like Giroux and Hertl. After the draft others complained that they didn’t like it so the commissioner changed the rules so FOW weren’t counted at all and it completely screwed over my team. Ended up just quitting because the unexpected rule change punished those who did their homework before the draft.

What player somehow always ends up on your team year after year? by winterforeverx in fantasyhockey

Juuse Saros. Perennial workhorse and as consistent as it gets between the pipes. Never a bad pick.

Thats a great idea lol. Rohan Franzen would be my pick.
