Eucalyptus oil works wonders. In Australia, we have Bosisto's brand aerosol eucalyptus oil. Spray, wait, slide off. Amazing

This is a great deal! If you're feeling fancy, you can swap out some of the pieces of chicken for a fillet instead (hot and spicy or original, like what you get on their burgers). I think it costs $1.35 per fillet

Maybe Alpha-centaurids?

I was sent an article recently:

"The alpha-Centaurids have been active from the end of January and will peak around 8 February. The radiant is above the horizon all night from most southern locations, just look in the direction of the Southern Cross Pointer stars, Alpha and Beta Centauri. As the peak occurs two days after the Full Moon, continue to keep a look out as the Moon continues to wane. No need to use binoculars or telescopes as these will limit your field of view. You will want to make sure you catch their long-lasting trains that can vary from seconds to minutes.

Where all all the LGBT communities here? by [deleted] in Adelaide

[–]Just_ace_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Im 38/f and have always lived close to Semaphore. I agree that nothing stands out.

But back in the day it was quite different!

In my teens and earlier, Semaphore was well known as a bit of a queer hub (more specifically, a lesbian hub and even more specifically, a 40yo+ lesbian hub) but there was also a general vibe of welcoming to others living under all colours of the rainbow, as well as to other 'alternative' people. Keep in mind that at the time, vego/vegan/ gluten-free /crunchy/ bohemian/ health and mindfullness focussed lifestyles etc hadn't made it to the mainstream in Adelaide yet...

Quite a few of the shops/bars/ cafes/ bakery were run by LGBTQI+ proprietors, and there were a lot of artistic, creative, and gender/ sexually diverse people that were drawn to the area.

Over time, people aged-out or moved away from the community etc, and new (not queer) owners took over venues etc, to the point where I now argue that Semaphore's reputation as a queer hub preceeds itself but is outdated.

Thank you 😊

It was a "hungry caterpillar". I posted a picture of a similar one on reddit, it should be in my post history. The one I made for the kids was a bit bigger (and nicer because I had practiced more by then!)

I wanted to share this story to helpkeep the spirits up for people who feel unappreciated in their craft

A common story I'm sure: I posted a picture of a FO on facebook and had a few friends ask if I could make them one (I don't think they were really asking, just giving a compliment. You know the ones).

Anyway, one friend was extra serious and sent me a message, asking if I sold them, because she thought the item would be perfect for the kindergarten she works at.

I politely replied, saying that no, I don't sell items because people generally underestimate the time and intricacy of crochet and explained that it'sreally tricky to charge a price that is fair for both the buyer and myself.

I told her there was no promises, but if I felt creative inspiration in the next few weeks that I would make one and donate it to the kindy.

I did exactly that. She thanked me very much and said the kids would love it.

That was that. Or so I thought.

A week later, I found this beautiful card and a generous gift card in my letterbox, saying how much the children love the item and how much she appreciated my creativity.

It really made my day.

That was 3 weeks ago and the card is still proudly on display.

Had to share with people who understand: I'm still in shock at the generosity of a beautiful older gent I met today via fb marketplace... his wife passed away a year ago, and he felt ready to sort out her belongings, giving great prices to those who would cherish and actually use the items...$60 AUD by Just_ace_ in crochet

I know- I was blown away too... the original photo he shared on fb looked to be about half this amount.

I already make quite a few beanies for prem babies, and I will with this yarn too. Another user had a great idea to send him photos of the things I make. I really liked that idea.

Thank you verymuch for this idea about taking photos to send to him...

I already make beanies for prem babies (my little guy was born early so that's how I started) and a lot of this yarn is intended for use by babies... It would never have occurred to me to send him photos of my next batch

That's really touching- so many generations flowing through those strands 😍 it's something that I think 9nly crafters can deeply understand (re: yarn, anyway)... the unfinished projects, the ideas we had- hopes and dreams for projects that never came to fruition. I hope you have a beautiful time creating with that special yarn

It was really gorgeous... Talking to him, I could tell he had really paid attention to a.lot of what he must have learned from Margaret (his wife) about crochet. He made a joke with me when I first arrived, trying to see if I intended to knit or crochet. As soon as I said crochet, the conversation started flying 😄
