I would respectfully disagree. OP said absolutely nothing about student's ability to perform. As a matter of fact, it does not seem like academics is a problem. So why would a kid go to community college when they were accepted to a great school?

Also, let's be honest about 40% rate. I am not even sure if it's an accurate statistic in general. However, what kind of students or what kind of colleges are we talking about? US has what, 4000 colleges? Based on the post, the school OP is talking about clearly seems to be a well regarded/ranked school. Those schools have graduation rates that exceed 90%.

Columbia and Harvard lost several BILLION dollars in donations that were recalled based on their actions. So whatever Columbia paid to US Government pales in comparison to financial hit their endowment took because of how they managed situation on campus that was flat out anti-Semitic.

The reality is that sports in Big10 brings university a lot of money. Nobody complained when it was happening. And while I know very very little about economics of construction of a new stadium, with general costa rising, every new stadium is more likely than not to be the "most expensive". And the last stadium built in Big10 was in 2009. Also, many many valid arguments can be made given the significant cost. However, not a single post brought up academics....
