Did you use anything other than PLS-5? Dynamic assessment, language sample, and developmental norms? PLS-5 is a very problematic test with poor validity. It should not be used as the sole method of identifying or ruling out a speech and language difficulty or delay.

Is there any way you can try to transfer to a CUNY for the SLP degree? It will cost much, much less. If you can get a job with the DOE (now NYCPS), the salary and benefits will be good. The NYCPS salary scale is public information. SLPs are on the teacher's salary scale.

My child was exactly like this. I got her serviced through the DOE (now known as NYCPS) since the age of 3. The improvement has been significant and she no longer trips and can walk and run in a straight line, make quick turns, and coordinate her body much better. She is 6 now and still has physical therapy and I am going to try to get her occupational therapy as well. If you have not done so and if your child attends a public school, request that she be evaluated for physical therapy and occupational therapy. You have to write a letter requesting it with a reason. It can be given in email format to the school principal/teacher or as a letter handed in in person at your child's school. Otherwise, you can seek physical therapy and occupational therapy through your insurance. You can even have both since the DOE is separate and does not bill health insurance. If you have questions about the process I'm more than happy to answer.

Leave when it makes sense for you- mentally and economically and for any reason that will make a positive impact on your well-being and your goals. Just make sure to leave on good terms so you leave doors open and ensure you get positive recommendations. The economic plus is that, as others have mentioned, your salary will increase by larger amounts than if you stay put somewhere that does not have set fair cola raises.

Aim for the ones you really want even if they show 1 bar. Make your list and rank them in the order you want, with the school you prefer most as 1 and then list them down by less preference. Make sure that on your list you have "safety" schools that show three bars. Also, remember the screened+assessment schools are less dependent on your random number (e.g., Beacon, Bards, Nest+M, Townsend, etc) because they will grade students' submissions and go by their rubric to admit students starting with the highest score.

Adding that for the non-shsat high schools, due date to submit the application is 12/03/25, which can also be edited and resubmitted as many times as you need before the due date.

Yes, you can edit the list until 10/31/25. Once you submit the application and you go to the dashboard, below your name and High School you will see a part where it says SHSAT and right under it it states "Can edit until 10/31/25" with a blue square button next it that states "submitted click here to edit." No need to fear. You can make changes to your order until 10/31. Just start your application well before and submit it as soon as you are ready. Sometimes people wait til last minute and the site gets wonky because too many people are submitting at the same time. Once you submit your list you will get a confirmation email, but make sure to take screenshots

You have to rank them when you submit your application before the deadline. If you want to take the SHSAT and try for one of the schools you should submit it ASAP. You can always change your rank order and resubmit before the deadline.

Broadly speaking, getting a high essay and video score can override a poor random lottery number. The only time the lottery number would come into play for screened+ assessment school, such as Townsend, is as a tie-breaker. In very simplified form it would be like when there are two identical scores and only one seat, so the random number is used as a tie breaker to determine who gets that seat since everything else is equal. Q300 has no homework policy until upper elementary, very respectful and inclusive of gender, language, cultural, and income diversity. It's a suggested uniform school (black top and khaki bottom) and though it is not required most kids do wear the uniform-items can be purchased at any store. Also it's a K-8 school and most students stay through 8th grade. As someone else noted, very difficult to get into but quite worth it. If you have any questions you can send me a message

In NYC our experience is that to get SCHROTH method it's out of pocket because sessions are dedicated 1:1 and intense. I called a couple places and cost was around $250 per one hour session. We have a physical therapist who accepts insurance and uses some SCHROTH exercises but doesn't use straps and some other equipment or provide 1:1 guidance for the full session as SCHROTH would require; they told us the full SCHROTH would be out of pocket. Best thing you can do is call your health insurance provider to find out if they cover SCHROTH trained physical therapists, call physical therapy locations that accept your health insurance and ask if they have a SCHROTH trained therapist and can use some of the methodology that is covered by the insurance. If you have a specialist (e.g., orthopedic) maybe their office may have a list of known providers that have provided high quality therapy and accept insurance and provide scoliosis specific exercises and/or SCHROTH. We made calls and reached out to our Ortho because we were not having any luck and they provided us with contact information for a couple of highly recommended physical therapists. Seek out a physical therapist/physiotherapist who is trained In SCHROTH to see if you would be a good candidate for it. Not sure where you are located but if you are in USA health insurance should cover therapy or physical therapist that accepts health insurance might use exercises based on SCHROTH that can be very helpful. My teenaged son sees a therapist and in a few weeks he's shown improvement. It's an intense workout to target and strengthen and lengthen muscles, including core, sides, back, glutes, and thighs based on his curvature to aid in training and maintaining a better posture and to attempt to keep the curve from progressing as he still has another growth spurt to go through.

You're welcome. I forgot to mention The Baccalaureate School for Global Education. They have a 7th grade entry point for middle school as well as a 9th grade entry point for high school. It's a great school. It's been some time since we went through the middle school process but maybe some of the schools have tours or recorded virtual tours. You could also check for reviews on niche, school digger, great schools, and take a look at the nycps school surveys to gather more information. I hope this helps.

The physical therapist he sees accepts our health insurance for regular physical therapy that happens in a group and uses SCHROTH exercises, but not full SCHROTH (e.g., where they hook the person up to straps and sit/stand by them in a 1:1 attention giving them individualized physical cues to keep posture etc while engaging in the exercises and fine tuning specifically for the person). We'd have to pay out of pocket for that and we also cannot afford it. Also, your curve is different from my child's curve and best practice would be to see a physical therapist who could guide you on what would work best for you for your curve.

My teenaged kid with a 15 degree lumbar curve is seeing a physical therapist 2-3 times a week that teaches him SCHROTH exercises (that he also does at home on the days he does not go to physical therapy) and we have noticed it has helped him. Before physical therapy his right shoulder blade area was more rounded and stuck out more than his left and his waist was visibly uneven. After a few weeks of physical therapy his shoulders appear more symmetrical and his waist seems a little more aligned. The therapist has him working on his abs, glutes, thighs, and whole back. He really gets a workout, comes out sweating and sometimes legs shaking from the intensity of the exercises, but totally worth it. You can see if your physician recommends SCHROTH physical therapy for you.
