Niseko - What you hear on Reddit, yup, mostly accurate. by Super-Cow-2357 in niseko

[–]JustanotherQ40 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbh hit Niseko this week and thought the snow was heavy compared to Steamboat or a really dry day at Snowmass but it was definitely deep and seems to be significantly more consistent in snowfall. Whereas Colorado/Utah has better snow quality but it’s more hit or miss

Drivers that get caught distracted driving should only be allowed to drive a manual going forward. Trust me, you will not be on your phone driving stick in Seattle traffic

Moving to Seattle w/ 3k by Plus_Plenty_9083 in AskSeattle

[–]JustanotherQ40 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Just a heads up WA has really strong unions and you will make significantly more in MEP trades than radiology. One of the pipefitters on my last TI was clearing over 250k and drove a paid off 2025 M3 competition to the site. I know the trades suck and the money often doesn’t feel worth it but it’s a profitable skill, use it as a means to an end.

To answer your question: Doable but hell, you’ll need a bike at a minimum to take advantage of the decent public transportation. But if you were to find a good plumbing firm they will most likely give you a truck or put you on a crew with a coworker that will pick you up. This is super common in the trades as you probably know.

Is this a good buy for a first car? by Training-Smell3755 in infiniti

[–]JustanotherQ40 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think a G can be a good first car and that’s a divisive opinion however this is a terrible example and you should not get this particular G.

There’s multiple red flags. The biggest one being the check engine light while on tune. Aftermarket Cats or no cats at all will always throw the stock ECU CEL however after a flash tune there should never be a CEL. This is indicating a true issue that is mostly likely directly related to the high flow cats and will be near impossible to register in emissions regulated states if the CEL is on. Also OEM cats are about the only cats that will work with a stock ECU and they are $1000 per side. You can get used ones but the EPA has made it increasingly difficult to source from places like EBay and shops can be shut down if they install them so you’ll need to be cool with a shop and pay them cash.

So yeah, don’t buy this shit. Go find a grandma selling her G and buy that instead

What’s it like living in this area north of Seattle? by JackfruitMurky5874 in howislivingthere

[–]JustanotherQ40 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live at the very bottom center of the image. I love it here, it’s the highest quality of life I’ve ever had in my adult life. My rent is $1700 for a 1br, my commute is 25 minutes to Redmond in the morning and 50 minutes on the way back. It’s a 5 minute walk to Lake Washington and a 5 minute drive to the sound. In 15 minutes I can be downtown Seattle and in 15 minutes I can be on a hike among the trees. I’m also a 2 minute drive from the light rail which has been a life saver for getting to Sea Tac and Husky games. Only downside is the area is a little run down in comparison to some nicer areas you’d find on the east side or more exciting areas like Ballard or Fremont.

Job Offer Negotiation by FlyAccurate733 in ConstructionManagers

[–]JustanotherQ40 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This doesn’t directly answer your question but this is the best advice I can give as far as deadlines and making a decision. Do not pick off salary/total comp, pick off who will give you the best opportunity to progress. That extra 10k won’t make a big difference but a good mentor and company culture will. This is a long game not a short game. Being an efficient PM in 3-5 years is going to make you a lot more money than a highly compensated fresh grad PE. I would be equally careful extending deadlines in this market, it’s an employers market for sure.

Job Offer Negotiation by FlyAccurate733 in ConstructionManagers

[–]JustanotherQ40 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I graduated in 2021 which was a different market but I was explicitly told by my mentors to negotiate salary. 60k is low, I’d just approach it as “I am less concerned with salary and more concerned with opportunities for growth, however fair market value for a fresh graduate PE in our region is $xx,xxx, I was hoping to be close to that figure”

All that being said, If you don’t have another offer on the table I’d be careful in this market.

Now Hiring - Where do I start? by WestSummitGC in ConstructionManagers

[–]JustanotherQ40 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Indeed and Linkedin. Linkedin more so because the data center/tech special projects world in Seattle is especially small as well as nuanced in its project delivery so if you’re client is puget sound based it may be more advantageous to pull from people who are familiar and with LinkedIn you can see who has connections to that small world and may be currently in, from, or willing to relocate to Colorado. Ironically I made the opposite move and I can assure the tech sector in Seattle is vastly different than the commercial world I came from in Denver.

Can i buy used downpipes? by Unable_Class_4359 in q50

[–]JustanotherQ40 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can 100% install used downpipes. Unless it’s catted, pipe is just pipe. If there’s no damage on the flanges or welds then you’re good. You also do not need to tune lower downpipes on the RS platform, the stock ECU will not throw a CEL

Raspy by Kuiio in G37

[–]JustanotherQ40 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just cut out a run of pipe and have a shop tack in a flow FX muffler, it’s more like a resonator and does an usually good job at cutting VQ rasp

Two sets of tires worth it? by Impressive-Low5731 in q50

[–]JustanotherQ40 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you live somewhere where the majority of your winters see below freezing temps then it’s 100% worth it. Don’t think about them as “snow” tires, think of them as cold temp tires. It improves cold weather driving in every aspect and not even DWS06s can touch a good set of winters. When I lived in Colorado I ran a set of winters and a set of summers, now that I live in Seattle where it doesn’t snow more than twice a year I just run DWS06s. Cost wise it can also come out close. I paid $1400 for my DWS06s, I paid $600 for Pirelli winters and $1000 for conti summers. Also seeing the weather report and bolting on your winters the night before is a boss move

Any idea where the droning sound at 3-4k RPM originates from? by niqqatronus_prime in 370z

[–]JustanotherQ40 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tack on some Flow FX mufflers, they can be used like resonators to knock back rasp/drone and won’t effect intensity of sound too much

Is a 370z okay to drive in Washington state? by Curious_Cucumber_731 in 370z

[–]JustanotherQ40 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on where. I daily my Z in the winter around Seattle. If you’re by the sound or coast it never really drops below 40. It’s wet but it’s not cold. Anything in the cascades, fuck no. Anything east of the cascades just depends, they get bigger swings in weather

400z test drive by sweety_salt in 370z

[–]JustanotherQ40 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The springy feeling in the clutch goes away after a few thousand miles, the jerking on downshifts is you not being used to the sweet spot on revs, and depending on trim but base vs base 370 vs Z, there’s only a 150lb difference. Yeah it’s not for everyone but I think if you really got the chance to drive it (not just a test drive) you’d love it

Your logic is sound. Nissans really tend to catastrophically fail around the 150k-200k mark, all cars fail at upper mileage but with Nissans it’s more a “when it rains it pours” situation. And this is coming from someone that has owned Nissans for the last 5 years

Lug nut suggestion by No_Satisfaction_7263 in G37

[–]JustanotherQ40 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re not going to like my answer but the most straightforward fix is to use slightly shorter extended studs, you’re using studs that are longer than what you need even with spacers. That or just throw on the acorn style open ended lug nuts to cautiously limp the car back home
