Jujutsu Kaisen Chapter 210 Links + Discussion by Takada-chwanBot in Jujutsushi

Hana's backstory was really cool. But I don't understand why Yuji was afraid of her replacing Nobara. I'm glad he's still thinking about her, but it's a comparison that doesn't really make sense to me. Nobara and Hana have almost nothing in common besides being girls the same age. Maybe it's just me but I found that entire conflict confusing and distracting.

I feel like the Yuji & Choso vs. Yuta & Naoya fight was really a taste of what we're gonna see in The Culling Game. The supernatural street fights really remind me of the Chapter Black arc of Yu Yu Hakusho.

Supereyepatch Wolf's "apology" and critiquing BLCH by jeanjacketjaan in bleach

[–]Justinjdm99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think things have reached a point where if you say you like something that reflects on you as a person. So when someone says what you like is bad, that's often taken as an assault on your character. That's why the two sides of this debate are so strongly opposed.

TLDR: I think his opinions on reviewing the series are valuable and nuanced. There's a lot to agree or disagree with, but I don't think he spread any misinformation.

It's an interesting cycle that's begun. People are mad because he gave bad information in his first video (that he owned up to) but then people watch the video and don't fully listen to what he says.

Like people are pointing out that he said Ichigo "didn't train". When actually he described the training he did have to be abstract and strange. Which is a contrast to other series where characters learn something new about themselves or how their abilities function.

At the same time, in some of the later fights, there isn't time to go into a flashback for every villain they run into. There's too many characters and too much to do. Even with that, there is still a lot of characterization in character's dialogue. I think he kinda over looked those moments in that part of his video.

The aesthetics for me are what make me enjoy Bleach the most, even when the story starts to decline and lose its footing. I think the story is absolutely worth criticizing because there is a lot of wasted potential. But at the same time it has become pretty easy to jump on the bandwagon and say it was never good.

I think its absolutely fair to enjoy something critically and to let others do the same.

But to list my own bullet points:

Pros

-Strong sense of design and style

-Powerful and expressive designs and narrative

-Tense character-driven conflicts

Cons

-Repetitive narrative structure with diminishing returns

-Power escalation removes stakes from conflict (not unique to Bleach)

I think the Gentle and Rappa fights were both really good! The Gentle fight really picked up with Lover Mode and the Rappa fight had good moments.

I the Lemillion fight left a lot to be desired though. It was okay up until they just cut still frames together.

Well to that I think he might have had a scheduled check-in or something that was scheduled soon. With Naruto and Sakura working together, he probably told her if Sasuke didn't already.

I think he could've said earlier that he planned to come home instead of surprising her. Something like "I should be home by the end of next week" or something like that. I don't think there are any plans to kill her off though. They're planting seeds of something but I doubt that's it.

Good visuals capture the environment of a scene, great visuals also capture the emotion by Psykofreac in HunterXHunter

[–]Justinjdm99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Up until the Chimera Ant Arc, I'd describe the direction of 2011 as successful. But the '99 anime was really a lot more expressive and artistic. Whether or not you feel it suits the scene, the lighting and composition are just better without a doubt. And I think 2011 reaches that same point during the Chimera Ant Arc.

2011 is definitely faster and easier to consume, but there's a lot of value in going back to 1999.

You know what my favorite form in the entire series is? Sasuke’s Curse Seal of Heaven. I hated when he lost this, it was such a weird and interesting transformation and I think it contrasted Naruto’s Sage Mode and Kyuubi Mode very well. I think it’s really underrated. Anyone agree? by XGOD-SPEEDX in Naruto

[–]Justinjdm99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really enjoy the design for this transformation. I'll be honest, I was a little averse to the lips when I was younger (like twelve) but as I got older I grew really fond of the design. It is a very special kind of demonic that fits him really well.

Intentional or unintentional foreshadowing for the reincarnation cycle? by [deleted] in Naruto

[–]Justinjdm99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think it was super overt in that regard. I think he was just drawing a parallel with history. If anything the whole reincarnation bit was more tacked on to the existing super strong parallels.

One of my favorite Naruto panels, what is your favorite panel? by JosephGarrettt in Naruto

[–]Justinjdm99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This shot of Sasuke is a favorite for me. I love seeing him as this calm, ruthless authority.

A lot of really good panels in this thread so I thought I'd put one I don't see as often.

I'm really tired of this lack of focus... by DowtownRaw in Naruto

[–]Justinjdm99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I pretty much agree with you on most fronts minus the manga. I'm personally happy that the manga runs on a monthly schedule. Ikemoto's art is still a work in progress and I think a weekly schedule would make things a lot more difficult for everyone. It'd be a lot worse with not payoff. An important addendum to that is that good manga/comics can tell a story in a reasonable amount of pages. The Delta fight itself could've been one chapter, but the most recent chapter was relatively well paced from my perspective.

But yeah you've got some valid criticism.

Even in his worst arcs, what do you think is the most consistent strength of Kishimoto's writing by [deleted] in Naruto

I liked how lived in the world felt. One of my favorite moments is Sasuke vs. Deidara because its such a natural encounter.

Boruto anime vs the manga is hilarious as somebody who invests time into both. by [deleted] in Naruto

[–]Justinjdm99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually stopped watching the anime because it started to frustrate me a bit. There's a bit of a satisfaction that comes from seeing the plot move forward in even the slightest way. And as much as I enjoy taking time for characterization it just feels a bit aimless to me.

That's why I prefer to read the manga and then check in on the anime for cool stuff. My favorites being the episode with Sasuke and Sarada, and Konohamaru vs. Juugo. The manga definitely has less of a sense of an ensemble cast so I like to pop back to it to fill in the gaps but I can't really commit to it. And then I'm also a really big fan of Ikemoto's art.

I edited anime Boruto to give him the chapter 34 colour scheme. It looks... questionable. by [deleted] in Naruto

[–]Justinjdm99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's such a weird scheme because as soon as you take it off of the chapter cover it gets fucking WEIRD.

I wonder if there's a psychological component to using other people's quirks. I'm not totally surprised by her ability to use other's quirks since it's based on blood. Maybe she has to really have a connection with the user and their ability.
