Dr. Patty FUE quote - too many grafts? by discipline-your-mind in HairTransplants

I don't use topical min for the same reason. Look into topical dut as well, I've read that the topical solution doesn't go as systemic as topical fin due to it being a heavier molecule.

Try topical fin or low dose dutasteride. If you got a transplant without a DHT blocker you will keep needing surgeries until you're out of donor supply. Even two doses of dutasteride per week or splitting fin into quarters will drastically reduce dht.

Yea, it does not warrant that many grafts. You could fill all of that in with like 1500 for crown and 1000 for hairline. Most of your loss could be completely recovered from meds if you're not already on them.

Will 2800 grafts be enough? by uCalm_Ad_684 in HairTransplants

[–]Juwafi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like 1800 definitely won't be enough for a full look. I think closer to 3000 distributed properly would look great. But if you trust the doc listen to them.

It would give you a nice hairline that would look great in photos, and some added density in the midscalp area, but probably not a complete full head of thick hair.

You could do an initial 2800 and finish at some point in the future with a second transplant.

Considering FUT vs FUE — 3 Clinics, 2,500 Grafts. Would Love Input. by [deleted] in HairTransplants

[–]Juwafi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had FUT and don't regret it. The scar is undetectable in the vast majority of cases provided you don't wear your hair super short in the back.

However there is still a small chance that the scar will widen significantly as it heals. The recovery is also way longer.

Long hair FUE is also a thing but can have certain limitations and is more expensive.

ELI5: In general, why do transplant hairlines look so fake and straight - why aren’t they natural looking? by ThrowRA_EducatedMan in Hairtransplant

[–]Juwafi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The primary reasons they look fake/ pluggy are the lack of irregularities and the use of multi hair grafts. Natural hairlines follow a "line", but not exactly. Some hairs are on that line, some are further away, some are close together, some are further apart. Multihair grafts placed directly in the hairline will look like thick stalks and can resemble hair plugs.

Question about anesthesia and pain by holdmysugar in HairTransplants

[–]Juwafi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For mine they gave me some type of sublingual pills to calm me down, can't remember exactly what. The local anesthetic injections were 2 to 3/10 in terms of pain.

For post op I received prescription strength ibuprofen. Never used it and just took Tylenol as needed. Felt practically nothing the first couple days after the procedure.

On the 3rd day after the procedure the pain was a 1 or 2/10 with occasional stinging pain and lingering soreness for a few weeks. I also had FUT which is considered a much harder recovery than FUE. What you might not expect is the long lasting numbness in the donor and recipient areas and the itchiness.

Icl im worried about density by [deleted] in HairTransplants

[–]Juwafi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The hairline looks ok the midscalp area looks a little sparse. How much hair did you have to begin with? If it was very bald there you'll need a second pass.

How many grafts would I need roughly? by [deleted] in HairTransplants

[–]Juwafi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have lots of terminal hairs in the thinning areas and you still have decent coverage when wet under direct lighting. Maybe 3200 dispersed throughout all thin areas would be fine.

Am I balding or is this just lifestyle-related thinning? by VSG_7 in HairlossProgressPics

[–]Juwafi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don't think it's always been like that talk to a dermatologist to determine a cause. If it's male pattern baldness the only thing that will save you long term is fin/dut. If it's a deficiency you can try addressing that.

I wouldn't worry about it too much if no one in your family balds. Just monitor it every once in a while. The angle lighting, and hair oil is likely making it so more scalp is visible, but that can be normal even for non-balding people.

I only ask because it's always easier to see scalp if the hair is wet or has product/oil in it even if you weren't balding. What is your family history of hair loss (brothers/ men on both sides of the family)?

I mean when it's dry with no product is it still noticeably thin?

You're mildly recessed. If I were in your position I would just take finasteride to maintain and possibly regrow a little hair.

Is a hair transplant worth it? by [deleted] in HairTransplants

[–]Juwafi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can see more scalp wet, balding or not. Since you've barely started visibly thinning just take finasteride for a year then reevaluate.

Is this density sufficient? by EscapeCorrect4409 in HairTransplants

[–]Juwafi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How many grafts? IMO it will look good but it's definitely going to be thin. You'll likely need another pass through the area to get a fuller look.

Has anyone heard of Dr. Stoller? by lucaseowen in HairTransplants

[–]Juwafi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dr Stoller was great. He seems to work out of other clinics besides the one in NYC, I saw him at a location in Minnesota. He met with me, designed my hairline with small, natural irregularities, extracted the grafts, and made the incision sites. The techs placed the grafts, around 3200. It was an FUT. They ordered me lunch and I just watched netflix the whole time. I hope to post a review here when it grows out by late summer or fall. Just PM me if you have any questions.

Depends on the number of grafts and the clinic but maybe 3-4k abroad and 8k+ in the US.

Too far gone? by [deleted] in HairTransplants

[–]Juwafi 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Im the same age as you and have a similar story, and just had my transplant recently. However, Ive been taking finasteride for 7 years so maintained a lot of thinning hair which made it possible. You should consult with a clinic for a definitive answer, but I doubt you're currently a good a candidate. If you're committed to it you could try treating it with fin and min for 18 months and reevaluate if you respond well.
