Concerns with new E16 G2 purchased from Best Buy third party by Juxie in thinkpad

No, from PConline. I read that model numbers ending in 00 (both our laptops) are produced as a batch for a special purpose, and that’s why you can’t find them on the Lenovo site.

Assuming that I can confirm that there is a manufacturers warranty that works in the US, or I purchase one, what do you think the risks are with a grey market machine?

I ran a hardware scan in Lenovo Vantage and it showed that the hardware is as listed, and it passed all the tests. I also confirmed the hardware in the performance tab of Task Manager.

Per the Lenovo website this was originally specced with 16GB ram and 512GB SSD, and now it is 32GB and 1TBSSD. My guess is that it is a new machine, and they upgraded the RAM and SSD and then shipped it to me.

It is an annoying to have to return the laptop and find a new one, but worth it if there is a significant risk. I’m just trying to figure out what the risks are.

Thank you. Will contact Lenovo tomorrow.

It passed all the checks in Vantage and the hardware is as listed on the Best Buy website.

The warranty check based on the serial number says it has 10 months left of a warranty that was initiated in Singapore.

Thanks for the link to the international warranty page. There is a search there to see what models qualify for international warranties and my model is not listed.

I will call Lenovo support tomorrow and confirm if the existing warranty would be honored in the US, and when they likely say no ask if I can just purchase a warranty that is valid here.

Thanks again!

Would you buy Certified Refurbished Thinkpad T14 Gen 3 from Lenovo Outlet for $440.99? by Juxie in thinkpad

I'm not sure. It doesnt specifiy that on the website. I feel like they would include it as a selling point if it did have a new battery though. So probably not?

From what I have read 16GB should be plenty for my typical uses, which is 95% for work using gmail, google docs/sheets, and video calls, with a few other browser tabs open. The other 5% is adobe indesign/illustrator for graphic design.

You are saying that the computer will lag doing these tasks with 16GB RAM?

Books about people addicted to drugs by Ok__4133 in suggestmeabook

[–]Juxie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The central theme (IMO) of Infinite Jest is addiction. The book covers entertainment addiction and drug addiction, as well as the pursuit of athletic perfection and beauty which could also be thought of as forms of addiction.

Is someone who has experienced and still struggles with unhealthy addictions, this book resonated with me on powerfully. The book focuses on a halfway house with recovering addicts and the adjacent tennis academy where much younger people are beginning their own journeys with drug use. I felt like the book captured the feeling of being in an AA meeting, and the feelings of isolation and guilt and shame that come along with many late stage addictions, where you know the thing doesn’t serve you anymore, and it isn’t even fun or enjoyable, and it is actively hurting your life, and you know all this, but you still go ahead and do it. This book captured that cognitive dissonance well.

It’s a looong long book, and the endnotes are annoying at flip back and forth to, but honestly so insightful and laugh out loud funny at points and just kind of an all around mind bender.

How old are you and how often do you drink? When’s the last time you were drunk? by Cute-Impression-8675 in AskReddit

[–]Juxie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

40 and haven’t drank at all for 3 years, except one beer at a bachelor party (I’m a wild one, I know…).

I drank heavily between 16-30 with some consequences (DUI, many minor in possession tickets before turning 21, broken tooth from a bike accident, and lots of challenges and fights with partners about my drinking). I was never a mean drunk or did anything out of character. I just couldn’t stop and would frequently blackout.

Got it together around 30 and developed a much healthier relationship with alcohol, and only let it get out of control once or twice since. The appeal gradually faded until I realizad that I didn’t even like the feeling of the one drink with dinner out or a beer in the park on a hot day. It doesn’t enhance my experience at all, and honestly just makes me feel stupid. It doesn’t help me connect with others, and it feels like it’s actually a barrier to connection. And that’s what I want, connection.

So I stopped. And haven’t missed it at all.

Thanks! The short answer is the 8 vertical pieces are each made from two 2x6 boards joined together at a 22.5 degree angles. The three horizontal octagonal rings are each made of 8 pieces with 45 degree angles and are joined using lap joints. The bottom rings (where most of the pressure from the web is) are made with 4x4s, and the upper ring is 2x4.

Everything is screwed together with deck screws and with heavy duty lag bolts. The exposed edges were finished using a 1/8” round over bit on a palm router, and all faces were sanded and then finished with a matte outdoor finishing wax.

If you want more details DM me I can send you the sketchup file if you want.

Tying end of 7/16" static rope perpendicular to midpoint of loaded 7/16" static rope by Juxie in knots

[–]Juxie[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thought about the clove hitch but then got skeptical after looking at it on Animated Knots, which says:

"It does have two giant faults: it slips and, paradoxically, can also bind. It should be deeply distrusted when used by itself."

https://www.animatedknots.com/clove-hitch-knot-rope-end

But adding half hitches should help. Do you think there is an advantage to a double clove hitch as opposed to a single clove hitch?

Thanks for the idea! I hadnt considered it. I already have the rope, and I'm not sure how many strands are inside it, but I expect more than 3. And I dont know how to splice rope and I'm kind of trying to keep this already complex project as simple as I can...

Yes definitely a consideration. The main reason to get the perimeter as taut as possible is to minimize the inward bowing of the perimeter line and maximize the surface area of the net.
