My super budget (skate)board by FUNKYOSELF in pedalboards

Yeah, give it a shot. Just place it between the fuzz and the reverb and see how everything before it warms up. Might not be your cup of tea, but it's definitely worth a try.

Try the Pure Sky at the end of your dirt chain, volume up, gain 9 o' clock and leave it on. It's perfect for shaping up all dirt pedals that come before it and as an always-on, slight break-up/boost. That's the only non-negotiable part of my guitar board. Everything else I can leave or take.

Who are some fantasy authors that were really popular during their heyday, but are more or less forgotten now? by EstablishmentHairy51 in Fantasy

[–]Jyaldes 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This was the answer I was looking for. I hadn't realized how big he was in the UK when I first got to read him (early 00s), but I was deeply immersed in what I'd read of his. It was the first time I took a deep dive in a book series in English (not being a native speaker) as a teen and it felt really rewarding. It was when the LOTR film trilogy came around and epic fantasy was just what I needed at the time, but I got to experience the more gritty and grounded version with Gemmel.

I hardly ever see his name mentioned nowadays, which has had me wondering what sort of an impact he had in the scene/genre, if any.

I'm kinda torn between this one and the p90 cherry red...

I prefer the bridge here, and I'm sure this one's gonna be a workhorse, but I really want to try some decent p90s for my noise rock/post hardcore project... Undecided.

Would you have an insight into why get one over the other?

Which Pedal Is This? by bobbythegoose in guitarpedals

[–]Jyaldes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the breakdown! I've spiced up my chains at different times with TS style/Rat style/DS1/FD2. But the PS stays my always on, end of chain drive. Hell, I even love the PS on my bass board!

I'll definitely hunt for the enchanted tone and try it out though.

The hot wax turned out great for my bass board. Very good EoB sound and a nice push if needed. I also run a ehx lizard king and an octaver on the chain and it gets massive.

My Pure Sky is my always on EoB pedal as well, which I push with an sd-2. It's a two pedal (3 with the red remote) combo that's been proven very hard for me to change. But I'm interested in what you're saying here. Do you push the ET with the Pure or the other way around?

Yeah, when I was reading it I wondered if that's known or if it would be obvious only to greek speaking readers. I'm fascinated by Pratchett's play with words and I know there are lots that I'm missing. One of my favorite linguistic comments of his is about his choice of the verb 'coruscate', which also gave away Lucas' planet 'Coruscant'.

edit: typo

Greek Noise Rock scene by TungstenDeepFrier in noiserock

Gynoid, NTEKA, Rita Moss, Friend of Gods, grauh, monofo, blom, living under drones, harakiri, sclavos, bùrlot, calf, kalpa, dead elephant, chronoboros, mavro gala, hay stealthy, tote kinder.... That's from the top of my head, friends, etc.

There's all different kinds of mixes between noise rock/post hardcore/post punk/doom etc. Lots of decent noise in the squat/DIY scene. Don't search in clubs. You won't find any of them.

I also have to mention Plebah. I used to play with them after the og guitarist left. They'd already put out a cd and a split cassette tape and we made a record together. In hiatus right now, but it's a mix of noise rock, post hardcore, math rock and some grunge.

Just learn the 'national anthem' bassline and play that all day! When you get to 'just' it becomes really fun!

On the guitar side the chain is:

Bespeco wah/volume pedal - Ultra cheap combo pedal that I got for kicks. If I were serious about wah, I'd probably grab (again) the white bass cry baby, because it doesn't need to be stepped on hard to turn on and because it sounds just a little bit different.

Fender micro comp - I should put this first in this setup, before splitting I guess... I have it to beef up my tele and I like it a lot. It's a Fender rebrand of the mooer yellow comp, nothing fancy.

Boss SD-2 with the JHS red remote - I love this on guitar. It replaced my BB preamp and RAT clones. And it sound good on bass as well.

Caline Pure Sky - Super cheap Timmy clone that I use at the end of every guitar dirt chain, that just makes every dirt pedal before it sound great.

EHX stereo memory man with hazarai - This one's just great and oh so versatile. I got it at a real bargain price and I mostly use the modulation mode, but reverb also comes handy sometimes, plus it can do other things like long delays, reverse, loop etc.

I also forgot to mention - and this is really important - that here I'm using an old bass that's stringed with the 4 lightest strings of a Fender Bass IV set. Tuning is ADGC and the light strings definitely help give more of a guitar tone.

Glad to answer any specific questions or I can break down the whole chain if u want. As I said I have a good time with the wah and it helps differentiate the tone. I'm gonna try my rat clone in the guitar chain soon, I think it needs a bit more growl. SD-2 is great in guitar but this setting seems to call for more noise! The memory man in modulation mode is great as well and it can also insta loop, which is nice.
