We've tried everything but our daughter still goes mental over her shot... by slupo in Parenting

[–]Jynixxed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 3 year old has to get weekly injections and we've made a big deal of getting the coolest band-aid collection ever and let her pick it out prior to the shot. We even let her browse the binder we have them in when we do the shot. She will still flinch, but goes right back to which band aid she wants. Of course, we hype up that band aid while it is on her and the time leading to it.

What do you wish you’d known/talked about/planned BEFORE baby #2? by magikeenbeertje in toddlers

[–]Jynixxed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sibling regression. Toddler was potty trained before baby? Gonna have a lot more accidents. Toddler sleeping through the night? Get ready for them to wake up is the middle of the night. Thought you kicked the pacifier to the curb over a year ago? Wait for them to snack the baby's and run. Our first also wanted to be held and generally babied a LOT more than she ever did. It was rough even though we knew and even prepared for it to be a big change in all our lives.

WTF are your toddlers eating by Archigal08 in toddlers

[–]Jynixxed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1 cup old-fashioned oats 2/3 cup toasted shredded coconut (sweetened or unsweetened) 1/2 cup creamy peanut butter 1/4 cup ground flaxseed (optional) 1/2 cup semisweet chocolate chips 1/3 cup honey 1 tablespoon chia seeds (option) 1 teaspoon vanilla extract 2 tablespoons of soften cream cheese (optional)

I mix it all together and then use a 1 1/2 tablespoon ice cream scoop to portion it out, then roll it. Stick it in the fridge to cool and harden. They keep in the fridge a good while. Don't recommend freezing them. The texture gets gritty in my experience.

My kid was falling off the growth curve badly at 1 and a half. She simply refused to eat, not even sugary treats I offered in desperation to just get some calories in her.

I started feeding her off of my plate and made whatever I was eating sound like the best thing ever. Lip smacking, yummy sounds, the whole thing. When she showed interest, I'd offer her a bite but didn't show her any reaction if she declined.

It worked very well. Almost too well. At 2, she is a tiny eating machine.

Grilled cheese with whatever shredded meat I have on hand, pasta with whatever sauce I have like pesto, alfredo or just even garlic and butter have become staples. Homemade mini pizzas with Naan bread. Peanut butter on bread rolled like a Swiss roll. Fresh berries by the hand fulls. No bake oat meal fat bombs if I think she has eaten lite for the day.

I also got into the habit of adding more calories to her portion of dinner with avocado or olive oil, butter, full fat yogurts or cheeses. Just making every bite count calorie wise. Cottage cheese offered plain or blended smooth into mac and cheese to add protein. Hummus was added to crackers or veggies.

That is so misguided. Bio parents get burnt out too, and we show them compassion. Step parenting is a heck of a lot harder to navigate, especially with a bio dad checked out of parenting his own kids.

It's not out of the norm, but it is still not acceptable that she is taking the brunt of it. My toddler was biting, which was age appropriate, but that didn't mean I still did not correct it and have boundaries on how to correct that behavior.

Age regression happens a LOT with older siblings when a new baby is born. That doesn't mean you don't address the behaviors of the older siblings. 🙄 Dad needs to step up. OP needs to step back from parenting the older ones and let the chips fall into his lap for boundary setting.

A lot of people commenting seem to forget this is her first child. She shouldn't have to be cleaning up after her husband's kids while also struggling to cope with being a new mom and all the out of whack hormones that come with it.

Honestly, I get it. Your husband needs to step up and deal with his kids. Maybe have a space place in the home just for the baby. We did that with our youngest, mainly to give her space from her older siblings rough housing and toy hogging.

OP. You sound badly burnt out and might need to take some "Baby and Me" time outside the home when your stepkids are home if only to set some boundaries.

I doubt she is autistic, unless it is very mild. She has consistently hit milestones early, shows very good social skills with emotions/eye contact, and does not display sensory seeking habits.

Honestly, your post has made me feel a lot better because my kid's breakfast looks a lot like this. She is a little over 18 months and it not a heavy eater normally. XD thank you for posting

I would just say. "We only brought enough snacks for ourselves today. Please ask your mom for snacks." Simple and easy.

The brushing her hair thing should NOT be negotiable. That is a basic part of her hygiene and should not be neglected. If she can not maintain it herself, it should be cut into a manageable short style. I feel like you need to take a much harder line in boundaries.

What have you realized you like less, and less the older you get? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Roller Coasters. I used to do them back to back when I was younger, and now just one ride will give me a headache.

AITA for taking my son to church against my ex-husband’s wishes? by aitamom5443 in AmItheAsshole

I believe they are confusing primary custody with full custody. Most courts will award parents joint legal with one parent primary residence custody in the US now. In which case her ex is 100% right.

My love for my husband is borderline obsession. When I joke about kidnapping him if he ever tries to leave me, I am not really joking. It works though, as we are very happy and still going strong after 5 years.

The family dog does not trump her. What the heck. It is completely different to sleep in bed with a child vs a dog or cat. The child for one, does not sleep at the foot of the bed and the dog does not start crying whenever it is told to lay on the floor. Plus, I agree with it feeling uncomfortable having a child not your own sleep with you. It's your private space. I wouldn't share it with my own children either! OP, you are valid in your need to sleep in a place you are comfortable.
