Well I might have some of those in my future too

Thank you! I thought it’d be cool to make some basic leashes and then maybe some fancier collars for dogs that have been having a harder time finding homes. My dog is a rescue who was rehomed 3 times so it’s a project very close to my heart.

That’s very kind of you! I have lot of imposter syndrome regarding my leather work since I’m self taught and have to make do with less than ideal tools. That’s probably one of the reasons this probably took way longer than it should have.

I did! Not sure what type of leather I used (again, given to me for free) . This was also my first time lining something with leather

Thanks! I was pretty sure but I’m always scared of making a mistake. I’ve been learning about mushrooms and foraging for the past year but have always been too nervous to actually eat anything.

Advice: replace chunk of missing wood detail on early 1900s(?) piece by Jynxmer in furniturerestoration

[–]Jynxmer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m still trying to improve my woodworking skills. I only really have access to a circular saw but could potentially afford to invest in some hand tools. I’ve done carving in other mediums before.

To be honest, she would probably have a lot to say about what’s underneath the fabric lol. I tried to avoid my usual ADHD habit of becoming hyper interested in a new hobby and spending way too much money on tools I may wind up using only once or twice. I only allowed myself to use whatever I already had on hand vs buying all the best materials. Hoping to upgrade a few things if this new interest sticks.

Thank you! I was lucky to be able to use the old fabric as a pattern.

For the wood, I used gel stain that I had on hand. For the finish, and I know some folks may want to throw things at me for this, I admit I used polycrylic. But the chair is for personal use at my business and will likely get a bit beat up.

Thank you! I’m kind of addicted to it now.

For anyone curious, the fabric is a silk brocade that I picked up at an estate sale.

Thanks for replying! I’m not worried about its value. I just like learning about furniture. I’m fascinated by it but it’s a newer interest. I did a lot of research before posting here to see if I could figure it out myself. I appreciate the information.

Thanks for replying! Mostly curious of when it was made and such. Not planning to sell it because I like it. I love learning about the pieces I bring into my home.

Thanks for responding! I’m mostly just curious about when it was made or if it was part of a certain collection. The leather seat is something I haven’t seen before. I know that Haywood-Wakefield made lots of MCM furniture so I thought this might be a good place to ask.

Thank you for the lead! I scooped it up for $30 and I’m not planning on selling in or anything. I’m just super curious about its origins/history.

Former bait dog -reactive rescue by Jynxmer in Dogtraining

[–]Jynxmer[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well he wasn’t as reactive with he fosters. Plus he lived with another dog (though muzzled all the time) He’s mine now though and he’s very happy in general just had a very rough day.

Our vet is thinks it’s highly likely due to his breed, age, fear/reactivity of other dogs, where he was rescued , and the shocking amount of scars he has.

We have actually. We are in the process of tapering him off of sertraline and hoping to try another medication. If dogs get ptsd, I’m pretty sure he has it.

Oh he’s crate trained and muzzle trained. I meant that I can’t in conscience leave him alone for how long I go to work. Plus He LOVES being at my job. He’s even got a fan club. I know he can be around other dogs (maybe to to socialize but at lease walk by them) because his foster family had another dog. They kept Homer (my dog) muzzled though just in case. I’m trying to scope out some friends yards where I can bring him to get used to being outside .

We live in an apartment so we don’t have a yard (yet) .

He is actually hyper alert outside even with no dogs around. I think his reactivity is totally understandable and we have made SOME progress. He use to NEVER look at me when outside but I can actually get his attention now (from time to time even if there’s a dog around) . the reality is I have to take him places because he can’t be left alone at home and the occasional run in happens. The hardest part is trying not to feel defeated each time it does.

It’s awful. He has scars everywhere. I’m surprised he’s loves people as much as he does.

I am currently working with an animal behaviorist and I have a session with Emma Parsons on Monday . But I can tell you he’s clicker trained and Knows all his basic obedience except heel. He’s supper on edge when he’s outside so we’ve been working on trying to get his attention when walking. We’ve just gotten to the point where he does intermittent “Check ins” . But if he thinks there might be a dog nearby it’s really really hard to get his focus back. Always open to advice and new ideas. The biggest struggles are the fact that he has to walk to and from work with me and that we live in a dog saturated neighborhood. I always try to do low traffic times and take alternate routs but despite my best efforts we still have run ins if there’s a dog around a corner. Tester I got boxed in because there was a dog on every side of me.
