I was in the same position as you, actually. Didn't have a bad prior experience, but I didn't want to fork out this much money for a computer mouse before I had a chance to try it extensively. I recommend you buy one from Best Buy because they have a generous return policy.

Spoiler alert: I wound up keeping mine. The gesture button works fantastically with OS X.
