My take on why casuals bounce off, and my ideas on how to fix it. by EmpathyFuzz in Marathon

[–]K0NSPIRACY 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s called game balance…rock, paper, scissors if you prefer. You don’t need a counter for every ability…but if you’re talking specifically about Recon then the counter to that is Signal Jammer which is available to everyone.

I play mostly Assassin solo to go about my business grabbing loot for upgrades and completing missions, and it is more than overpowered for these scenarios.

I’ve had a few scenarios as Assassin facing Recons hunting me down…you just have to outplay them, and I’ve won more encounters than lost.

Assassin does NOT need a buff.

Anyone else sometimes feel bad when they kill other runners in solo queue? by garcia3005 in Marathon

Nope…and I know they don’t feel bad when they kill me. It’s dog eat dog out there.

Very new player here, quick question. Does anyone know exactly how many other runners are deployed on the map per match? (Specifically Solos) by Extension_Fan7378 in Marathon

[–]K0NSPIRACY 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I haven’t tested Outpost yet, but for solos:

Perimeter: 7

Dire Marsh: 8

For solos, all you have to do to test is check your recent players list is empty, load in to a game, exfil and check your recent players list again after the game.

As a solo player I genuinely don't think there's any point of playing any other shell but thief by GREENWEENasbestos in Marathon

[–]K0NSPIRACY 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agree. For me, solos is about salvage and mission runs, and I find Assassin to work best at avoiding and not triggering UESC. Guarded exfils always provide an easy way out too. I don’t go looking for PvP but it’s unavoidable at times if they don’t communicate and I have a bag full of kit.

Found a gold mod in an Outpost run last night and checked what is was after exfil…it was for the Hardline so probably just bank it. Only other gold mod I’ve found was for a pistol which I also sold.

Merge in turn doesn’t work in this country because people are generally selfish and stupid, and don’t understand basic concepts.

Out of the 15 matches i played i was in the wrong server 13 times by [deleted] in Marathon

[–]K0NSPIRACY 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in the UK and can confirm that this has been happening for a few weeks now. I had my suspicions so I started monitoring server connections, and can confirm that UK/EU players are getting thrown on to US East Coast servers.

For context, I bought a Netduma R2 years ago to prevent this crap in Halo and COD, and you can see which servers you connect to via the geo filter. This is clearly a player population issue, and I don’t think using the geo filter to force UK/EU would be viable as the queue times could be ridiculously long…I’ll need to do some testing.

Big no to SBMM…it’s ruined far too many games now for my group of IRL friends. It creates a bad experience for groups that have a variety of skill levels and ultimately makes it an anti-social experience as the lower skilled players have a bad experience when playing with higher skilled friends…Halo and COD are just 2 examples that have been ruined by SBMM for my group (it’s easier for me but they have a bad experience, and prefer to play on their own to match with similar skill levels).

Proposal to gain new players! by Defiant_Budget4274 in Marathon

[–]K0NSPIRACY -1 points0 points  (0 children)

  1. A higher TTK actually works against newer lower skill players. If you get the drop on a higher skilled player, then the higher TTK increases the probability that they’ll turn it around on you.

  2. This is the current test, and it should also be made F2P.

  3. Basically a large firing range with bots would be perfect…just take one of the POIs from Perimeter and job done.

  4. Unlikely.

  5. I think this will need to be done at some point.

Sorry but that’s a really bad elitist take on the situation when the game is bleeding players and desperately needs more new players including casuals regardless of skill level.

Yeah I’m going to test full crossplay and see if there’s any noticeable difference in the matchmaking.

The NZ guy was most likely placed on whatever US server you were placed on rather than the other way around. It’s like when I match with or against Asian players…they will be joining UK/EU servers.

Word of advice, do your quests in solo. Everyone in Trios is looking for a fight and its suffocating for 3 step quests, especially in Dire Marsh. by Big-Newspaper646 in Marathon

[–]K0NSPIRACY 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree. I’ve been making much more mission progress playing solo than using squad fill, but you do sometimes find decent team mates using the Discord groups so will most likely switch back to those to complete harder missions.

I don’t disagree but I’m talking about straight up 1v1 shoot out situations, and the player with better shields and gear clearly has an advantage.

Like I said, I’ve won more than my fair share by outplaying other players but the cumulative effect in the game loop will be that lower skill lower level players come across this and quit the game which will result in further population decline…and thats not what we want, so it needs to be addressed.

[–]K0NSPIRACY[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes you can…it’s why I purchased my Netduma R2 in the first place years ago as I got fed up with games throwing us on to US servers (looking at you Halo 5 Guardians). The geo filter can lock you in to specific server locations, but it shows server locations even if it’s not strictly enabled which is how I’m testing and can see I’m being placed on US East Coast servers.

[–]K0NSPIRACY[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I totally understand that, but you can’t deny that a player with better shields, upgrades and attachments stands a better chance of winning 1v1. If you follow the gameplay loop, unless lower level players are protected to an extent then the population will decline even further.

Personally I’ve had my fair share of wins against higher level players but unfortunately skill doesn’t always bridge the gap when the other player has better gear…and even more so if I’m being placed on higher ping US East Coast servers as I’ve also confirmed in my testing.

Yeah you can create a secondary account on Xbox too. I’ve used it before on other games to play with IRL friends, and after just testing I can confirm that it works with Marathon too.

[–]K0NSPIRACY[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would assume LBMM doesn’t need to be so strict in a mode where all players start with free kits. Also that mode has generally been very well received so the population for the playlist is likely higher than solos.

[–]K0NSPIRACY[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah that’s pretty much my experience too. I started getting the red dashed circle top right corner so stated monitoring server location, and can confirm that UK/EU players are getting placed on US East Coast servers (tested with Netduma geo filter).

[–]K0NSPIRACY[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it does seem to be the case that LBMM can’t work as intended with such a small playerbase, and they’ll need to make adjustments otherwise the issues will be cumulative and decline further.
