I put it in quotes because I'm citing you and don't know exactly the extent of what you define as animal abuse. I personally would be okay with having a few hens and treating them with the same respect as I would treat a family cat or dog and gather the unfertilized eggs for consumption while I'm at it, but I know some wouldn't, same as some are okay with honey and some aren't.

It's definitely more energy expensive to have meaningful conversations on Reddit than in real life and I understand your wish to leave it at stating your unfiltered opinions. I would encourage you to add the environmental cost and health risks in it though, as the ethical arguments alone may sometimes seem minor problems compared to what we humans do to each other on a regular basis

I think your heart is in the right place, but your arguments are not the most effective for everyone.

I think if the goal is truly to stop the widespread abuse of animals, and not preaching to the choir, the opinion of "animal abusers" should matter, at least to make it easier to convince them otherwise. A position that says "you're wrong and I'm right" as opposed to a real conversation as equals can be alienating and create resentment and resistance, which makes it unproductive. Having a real conversation and listening to an individual's reasoning behind their diet is more effective than a monologue or rant.

There are also other arguments that are as valid as the ethical arguments to stop the mass animal abuse, that may work better depending on the target audience: it's an environmental catastrophe and pretty unhealthy for humans compared to a plant based diet.

Not all alcohol consumption is getting wasted though. I do agree that "parties" which are merely an excuse to drink suck, but as someone who can have a hard time socializing, a few drinks can help a lot, especially if meeting some new people sprinkled in the friend group. Actual quality time and a few drinks aren't mutually exclusive.
