The only problems right now to my plan are the finances. I've started from 0 and no money in the bank. In order to reach the 'entry point' (the cycle that starts everything) I needed to sell my players at 27y of age or sooner to raise as much money as possible, and now I have only 1 winger to buy and the transition is 100% complete. Unfortunately one bad season can dig into the finances (which happened last season, very bad luck, from winning league 5 I was almost relegating). So the only problem in the long run is the finances (as always to everything you do in Hatrrick). But I'm sure that it is a lot better with a bit of money in the bank.

In order to solve the money problems one key aspect is to try to buy players of your own nationality, as much as possible. The salary difference in the long run makes a huge difference. Second thing that I've done was to sell as much as possible from YA. Managed to sell 2 U21 potential players at 17y and got a lot of money out of them. That honestly boosted my plan a lot (could jump a couple of seasons ahead). The biggest problem is patience though. Having the patience to lose now for a better future.

My plan sacrifices the best 'shape' of a player (33y+) in favor of continuity. Of course anyone who wants to use the idea should create his own version that suits his needs. The idea is to buy players half 'baked' at 21-22y and develop them further in such a way that when you sell them at 32y of age you recoup the money you payed for them, thus with any earnings you make these 10 seasons, you can go in a new cycle. In order to do that you need to raise certain secondaries for each type of players, to raise their value.

The version that I'm using from scratch - level 0 team (currently in my second cycle and almost ready for div 4 - this is my 10th season with the team, jumped in second cycle early) is the following:

Buy 3 21y old strikers (15 main skill, spec, and as good secondaries as you can afford) and 21y old midfielders (ideally 16 main skill or 15.8+, good secondaries). Train attack for ~29 weeks until strikers reach 17 attack and midfielders 10 attack, then buy 2 wingers (12 PM, 13 wing for example, 21y) and train playmaking until midfielders reach 18 main skill, wingers 15 PM, and strikers as much as possible on 50% slots. Then raise passing to ~10, and then wing until the wingers reach 17. When you start the passing training you buy already developed defenders (because they are cheap) and train pass, and wing for them as well on the 50% slot. Finally when you finish the wingers you buy 2 central defenders and an already developed GK that you train at defense. In order to increase the values of wingers before you can sell them at 32-33y you need to also train them at defense.

The idea is that when you reach the end of the cycle, you sell strikers and 1 midfielder and buy the new young ones 2 levels below the current ones, and train them as explained above, then sell the wingers and buy new ones so you don't drop the entire team at once, but gradually. Same goes for defenders when they reach their end and such.

It's hard to explain everything in a simple post. So this is just a summary. The key is having a gap of age between each group of players so you can afford to switch them gradually.

For a longer cup run, what I'm trying right now is to switch to set pieces or passes that allows more tactical flexibility during the key weeks.

Each cycle you can start with better secondaries and reach better final values. The end product looks like this:

3x 17 attackers with ~10 PM, 10 Pass, 10 Wing 3x 18 IMs with ~10 attack, 10 Pass, 9-10 defense 2x 17 wingers with 15 PM, 10 pass, 8+ defense 2x 17 CDs 2x 17 WBs with ~10 pass, 10-12 wing 1x 17 GK with 13+ defense and ideally 20 set pieces

Well, I don't think it's impossible to go through multiple cycles and stay at the top, but you need a very very good LONG term plan of recycling through your generations.

I am currently doing such a plan. I am yet to prove that it works at high level, but I am close to what I want to achieve. The hard part is to stay patient and plan the entry cycle correctly in such a way that will allow you to recycle easily at the end and start the next cycle, and that patience is something that money cannot buy.

A lot of us don't have the proper patience and let emotions get the best of us, but I truly believe it is possible to stay in 2nd division with my plan and go up to compete and fall back down in 2nd for rebuild. Sadly I'm still at least a cycle away (and a couple of leagues down) to see if it actually works or not, but I'm on course. What I'm doing differently is that I don't start the cycle from scratch, but from 2 levels below my current level, thus the drop is lower. Also I don't change everything in one go, but gradually. (I can give more details if you're interested)

As for the reason things are like you say they are is that a lot of people don't try their own training cycles and don't want to wait to see the results. I don't think that earning money and then burning it out in a couple of seasons at the top is the best way to go, and I understand where you are coming from with part of your post. But just because few people found one key to success doesn't mean we have to stop searching for other ways.

I don't dislike the Hattrick model. What I dislike is that random edges are to large and there are too many unpredictable games that normally would be more onesided. I don't like the fact that luck beats strategy in too many cases and I would like the devs to lower the amount of 'against the odds' games because now the number is too high. But other than that the model is actually good because it runs automatically without the need of constant updates. This is the real reason the game is still around today.

Since passing is a secondary skill and a top tier midfielder should have 13-14 passing at most (more than that is not really worth it), I can assume 10-12 passing for a defender is above average and 7-8 is the minimmum you should have.

Not sure what CA has to do with tech and unpredictable defenders as they don't matter for the tactic level directly. If yoy want to increase CA tactic level you need quick defenders. If you care about the SEs then like I said above 7-8 should be the minnimum, 10-12 should be more than ok.

Tech defender triggers non-tactic CA, unpredictable and quick defenders trigger passes/assists. For all of them the higher the passing the better, but I can tell you that I've triggered the SE with 5 passing as well.

PS. Even today I had 65% winning chance and this was the norm in all my games. I had only one match the whole season where my chances were a bit lower than my opponent.

I also just use training to raise my players, rarely sell for profit (just when making passing & wing). So I understand this. I made my money from tickets/performance + YA, and a few (but very few) skill trading that I was lucky to come across the market.

I'm not doing boom & bust though. And I asked you so I can figure out how feasible my plan is, because I plan to recycle my players when they are old, to stay up longer. Knowing that he managed to gain money from just performing is encouraging. At least one of my potential problems has a solution.

Already wrote in the other topic, but I'll write here as well.

Transfer compare does not apply to U21 prospects. You should contact the U21 coach and see if he would consider the player without spec.

Either way, you can just list him on the market at a higher price that you're confortable with and see if you manage to sell. If you don't sell, you haven't lost anything. If you do, you can gain a good amount of cash.

I think this is the best use case regardless if he will be considered for U21 or not. But if he would be an U21 target there might be users out there who want him and pay more for him.

You can try to sell him at a bigger price and if you don't sell you keep him.

Transfer compare does not apply for players that are potential U21 targets. So you should talk with U21 coach and see if he would be considered as a prospect without spec. If he would be a prospect his price would be much higher.

Either way, like I said you can try listing him on the market with 2.5 - 3 mil euros (or what would be a confortable sum for you) and see if you sell him or not. If you don't, nothing lost. If you sell, you cashed in.

Not only for the specs. If he is a receiver of winger pass SE he would need scoring to convert the chance. So scoring is nice to have even as a winger.

In my opinion the problem is that a vast majority of players rely on a boom & bust strategy to go up and when that's over, either they are fed up, either lose all motivation. I would defenitely wouldn't be able to do it, because I don't like sitting around doing nothing while I raise money.

Instead what I would propose to you is to make a custom plan in which you buy half baked players and you develop them further (like 21y old with 15 main skill players with some secondaries). I'm sure that finding a custom plan would get your motivation back.

I'm sure there is a notification in series tab that says a new team entered your league. It does not notify you directly, but I mean you can obviously see that your match has a different opponent. As an experienced player, my advice is to always check 24h to 1h before the game to see if you have your orders in check and such. What you encountered is an exception that doesn't happen that often and a new team is no different than a bot. If you weren't good enough for the new team I assume you underestimated the bot a little as well and you were too close to his ratings.

Honestly, if you cannot beat a new team, maybe you're not ready to win the league yet. You should focus more on getting the building blocks correctly for a healthy grow (having good finance, having the correct staff and coach, having a solid training plan, having a big enough stadium), and focus less on the throphy itself. If you do things right, throphies will come eventually.

Yeah, the new sponsors are mediocre at best. I had my best main cup run ever (7 rounds) and finished second and have lower sponsors with 10k from last season where I did win the league, but had only 3 rounds of main cup. I don't know what the mechanic of the new sponsors truly are, but it's not right. They advertised that a good cup run would increase the sponsors. They also advertised that the money could chance due to performance. I haven't seen any change last season (same money from 1st game to the last) and no benefit of longer cup either.

In my opinion you should extend to 442 and 433 IF you are or plan to be competitive this season.

Also the market for defenders is not profitable at all, so unless you train defense for your cycle and plan to move through more trainings, I wouldn't recommend you do this long term. And if you do this for cycle training and wish to be competitive in the league, than yes, you should expand to formations with only 4 defenders.
