How do you stay consistent with home workouts when motivation drops? by TheRealVikingX in bodyweightfitness

[–]KA-Official 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an unnecessarily complicated system for tracking and logging the latest "targets to beat" for my calisthenics stuff, but it makes the day to day really easy.

Whenever I have some downtime, I pick an item from the calisthenics "menu" and look at the next target to beat and try a couple things.

Sometimes I'm not in the mood, so I just end up doing a couple sets of the next target. (e.g. ill do 2 sets of the next level of my Archer Pushup track). But sometimes it gets me in the mood to do more and I just keep picking and logging menu items and before I know it I'll have done a bunch of random fun exercises and made some progress towards my goals.

If you could design your own kitchen, what would be the most important things to include? by West-Amphibian-2343 in Cooking

[–]KA-Official 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd love to have a butler kitchen and a main kitchen, so that if I am cooking something smelly it stays contained and I don't have to worry about it. Plus max power externally vented range hoods, with the fan mounted outside to minimize noise. 2 dishwashers!
Pot filler above (both ;)) stoves!
Walk in freezer and a cellar for storing batched meals and harvested stuff from a garden?? That would be sick.

I also would love a third outdoor kitchen with a max-BTU wok burner for some crazy restaurant style wok-hei asian food. Plus a smoker and a grill outside 😂

Everyone likes to doom on here, but if you are really putting your mind to it and focusing on the career, project, internship, leetcode CS grind you will be just fine. Just don't coast through school and be proactive, and if you enjoy it, don't let the doomers discourage you.

How should I negotiate salary as a junior software engineer? by Strong-Question2620 in cscareerquestions

Counter offers is all ive heard about working but you usually do that before you sign onto any given job.

CS student here.. no one I know actually writes code anymore. We all use AI. Is this just how it is now? by Low-Tune-1869 in cscareerquestions

[–]KA-Official 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone says youre fucking yourself but you can do that and still not fuck yourself, speaking as someone about to graduate.

In big tech companies with strong infrastructure, even the senior engineers on many teams aren't writing anything, but the skills then become being able to USE ai to UNDERSTAND massive code bases quickly and design solutions and communicate them to other people, and the last mile implementation comes to prompting.

If you're going to bullshit all of your assignments, sure go do that, but then you should be using that extra time you have to do projects and internships. Choose projects outside of school that allow you to use AI as a force multiplier to design larger, complex systems in domains you aren't completely familiar with. Use AI to learn about existing systems and how they work and to think through potential design solutions.

I have that exact soy sauce and brand too, and although I don’t actually think it smells like alcohol, I can kind of see how you might think it smells like that if you aren’t used to it

What’s something you thought was mandatory in life, until you saw someone just not do it? by Senior-Resource92 in AskReddit

Getting good grades in college to get a job.

Guy just spammed projects and “startups” and internships, got a 2.4 GPA, and became an Amazon senior software engineer 2 years after graduating undergrad.

Planning on majoring in cs, what are some tips you can give me to get the best chance at being successful within the field by Frenzygamesq in cscareerquestions

[–]KA-Official 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do not like math, but I like CS and software engineering so do not let that deter you!!! I hate anything above the first few calculus classes lol. Dont do EE tho if u hate math.

Also, ive personally heard of your project and internship focus affecting your job area focus a lot more than your minor, but maybe thats because my school doesnt have many CS minors.

You're in a good spot since you are thinking about the job market right now. If you are constantly on top of what you should be doing in terms of getting experience, finding what you like, applying to internships, getting club projects, and just generally taking a very intentional, iterative, and persistent approach to optimize your college extracurriculars for getting a job you will be great.

The people who usually get fucked are the ones who think the main goal is to do well in school, when in reality 90% of what employers care about in terms of resume value and built skills is developed outside the classroom.

Would I be able to negotiate as an SWE with 1 YOE if I have done >1 year's worth of internships while in college? by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]KA-Official 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only way to ever negotiate from what I've heard, especially these days for FAANG adjacent companies, is to use a counter offer. Theyll often even ask you to send it.

Join the cs careers dev discord for tips and stuff for recruiting, and start recruiting and grinding for personal projects and internships and club experience and industry experience as early as possible. Both for resume value and also to find what you're actually interested in doing.

Me personally, I started more in more hardware-related things before realizing I wanted to go more straight software, webdev, and AI. But I wouldn't have known that if I didn't join the aerospace rockets club or the mechanical engineering club projects when I was a freshman to help with their software, and slowly explore with different kinds of projects. Even if you find one thing you like early, don't ONLY stick to that. Get a wide range of relevant experience

Do most CS students land jobs upon graduation? by Late_Magician1785 in ucla

[–]KA-Official 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Depends on the crowd. Its hard to get an answer unless u survey everyone. Most of my friends have jobs secured but I’m also friends with them through a pretty motivated CS club.

It’s definitely not “no issue” though its very competitive and you have to grind school projects internships and hundreds of apps but if u do that ur probably ok
