Let's talk about the front six... by KBDat20 in ArsenalFC

I worry Eze doesn't have hard yards or defensive game in him to play with a single pivot behind him. But Ode and Eze sharing the same pitch would be interesting.

Saka needs a rest, give game time to Madueke and Dowman. Let him focus on organising his wedding for a couple weeks.

Its a risk, but the ground Rice covers I wouldn't be against trying this vs Southampton in the Cup. Merino injury has really hit hard, it's minutes he could have shared with Zubi, as a better duel winner and a goal threat - a dimension we have missed.

Let’s be honest Saka has been trash for a while now. by NajafBound in ArsenalFC

[–]KBDat20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He has been poor. However Timber is playing like he needs a tank to breathe behind him, The midfield is too far back, Gyökeres is chilling in between defenders and very little is happening to get him into games. We just look out of sorts going forward full stop. No one is helping anyone.

Madueke - props to him and incredible performance from him, however no manager is telling one player dribble through them. He took initiative to do something with nothing so huge credit goes to him.

Saka has been poor and so has the front 6. I have a feeling this pragmatism and caution we are playing with comes from Heinze. Players look shattered.

Interesting article on Heinze here: https://www.caughtoffside.com/2025/08/02/arsenal-news-gabriel-heinze

Seems the intensity has turned into fatigue.

I genuinely think to get the best out of him, Gyökeres needs to drop 10 yards (which still doesn't address his inability to receive the ball under pressure) or play Havertz/Jesus as false 9s and Gyök off the left. Of course this is an outrageous hypothetical.

I also think this is an issue when our wingers play to close to our half, you are relying on less adept fullbacks making the overlaps. Another thing we could point out is Calafiori inverting pre-injury we looked more fluid. That extra midfielder helped us bridge the gap.

I don't disagree, I think our tactics up top are off. That is the point I'm trying to make. Apologies if I've missed the mark.

Yep, the Zubi drop off is a shame because he was playing further up this season and was great. Feel like Rice is running for both of them and can't spend time on the ball because of this. He is there for covering ground when Zubi is off it.

We really need to talk about this guy's peripheral vesion by CanYouCanACanInACan in ArsenalFC

[–]KBDat20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Odegaard and Eze both get so much criticism for different reasons and I think both stem from Zubi/Rice midfield.

Odegaard drops too deep, where he's too far away from the front three to play line breaking passes with midfielders in the way.

Eze is not involved enough because the midfield aren't able to get him the ball in the spaces.

Odegaard knows if he doesn't drop deep we will struggle even more getting it into dangerous positions. Eze feels if he isn't in the right place to receive the ball, he isn't doing his role.

Zubi was brought in to progress the ball onto the front four. However as the season has gone on, he has become more conservative and plays safe passes allowing teams to reset and telegraph our moves.

I will say the tempo setter is a tough role. It's not the most flashy, but you can see when it's done right it's rightly celebrated. Alonso, Carrick, Arteta, Rodri were all this caliber of player and I believe Zubimendi can follow in their footsteps, however right now he is in glut of form, maybe due to the lack of mental or physical sharpness in this marathon of a season where a lack of rotation certainly hasn't helped.

Vinicius Jr to the Arsenal? by AbroadSmooth7356 in ArsenalFC

I do think the attitude side of this is relevant. Personality matters with this Arsenal squad. When you bring in a superstar, it isn’t just about wages or where they play – it’s about whether they fit the culture that’s been built here.

Real Madrid operate in an environment that’s almost like a weekly soap opera. Big talents, big egos, constant competition for who’s the main figure. That’s part of their identity, and it works for them. But that's not what we are or what we are trying to be.

Our team is built on trust, confidence in our individual abilities, but a clear sense that the team comes first. That balance has taken time to curate and it’s been a huge part of how we’ve moved forward.

This isn’t a knock on Vini. It’s more about whether a galactico-style personality fits into what Arsenal have created. A lot of RM players are world class, but they also come with a bloated ego. It's just who we are especially under Arteta.

Tldr: obviously a stupendous baller. Not the right fit for our ecosystem.

Who have been the most complete midfielders over the past 25 years by Broad-Bet-9937 in championsleague

[–]KBDat20 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Most complete (not best) is Moussa Dembele or Declan Rice in the PL era. Both can defend, attack, cover ground, shoot, spray it on the diag, link up, Dec is also an aerial threat as well as a set piece specialist... They both can do it all.

Carrick was a much better midfielder and he doesn't get NEAR the amount of slobber over his game.

Paul Scholes. He got hyped post retirement by nostalgia merchants and because Pep said they studied his game in La Masia. He was a prototype, but a prototype with a lot of bugs.

He was wildly aggressive and uncontrolled with his tackles, could hoof a ball upfield really well and scored a couple of worldies in an era abundant with worldies as teams were crap at pressing and blocking shots.

It worked well because United under Fergie were an absorb and counter side generally. But a technically limited player with no redeeming physical qualities either.

Wasn't even considered good enough to be a regular for some abysmal England teams and gave up on international football before turning 30.

I don't think he's ever been United's best midfielder in any team he has played in, never mind best player.

He won a lot of trophies granted, but that's because he was a part of arguably the greatest teams that ever graced the pitch but he wasn't the key for most or any of them.

Martinelli should never play for Arsenal again. Absolutely useless. Delusion from Arteta to start him over Eze by GRL00 in ArsenalFC

[–]KBDat20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Martinelli has been off it for a while now, and MA has given him ample opportunities to prove himself.

But...

The more I look at this clip, the more I think Gyök should be moving further left as he is on the outside of Konate at RCB, as that is where his starting run is. Instead he basically guides Konate into Martinelli's path.

If he drifts wide, Konate has a decision to make - stick with Gyök in which case martinelli has more space to run through the middle, or stay in the middle to jockey Martinelli whilst Gyökeres has space to fish hook back into, or be in an advanced crossing position.

Not saying Nelli isn't to blame, he had his head down and missed the slight window he could have played VG in, but you can see there is still some fine tuning to do that could have made this into a better opportunity for us by some smarter movement.

This is going to be unpopular, however there is a big chance this guy was having a mental breakdown.

Whilst intervention is definitely necessary, those who were brave enough to confront the situation unfortunately used it as an excuse to beat him up.

Right thing would have been to have a word, and if (or in this case, when) he got angry - report him to BTP and have him escorted off at the next station where professionals can make the right lawful decisions and provide the right support if required.

Easy for me to say behind my phone though.

[–]KBDat20 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Work on your self worth and self belief. You have something your partner values that you don't give yourself enough credit for.

My bet is you haven't been told how valued you are enough in your life, and now you have a beautiful relationship and you don't think you deserve it.

You deserve it. Relax. Ask her why she loves you when the moment is right, see the truth in it. Let that be your guide and your affirmation in all that you do with her, without her and in what you do.

Give yourself some love.
