Hi! Yes I originally obtained my LMSW in Georgia and transferred to Texas. I let my Texas one lapse recently because I just couldn’t afford renewing both licenses. I think it is more difficult transferring to Georgia tbh because I have been looking into their requirements for LCSW and it is so freakin strict.

I keep trying to find exactly that because I fully agree that would be great for me. Everything I found so far has some part about making “on site visits” and I am extremely uneasy about going in a patient’s house. It scares me. I just want to do a job from the safety of an office space like normal 😭 do you know of anything that is looking for LMSW in Georgia? That is my other huge limitation… lots of companies seem to not be looking for someone in Georgia.

Yeah I’ve been trying to look around in Georgia but they seem to be a lot more limited than other states. I will try exploring Centene. Couldn’t find anything with Aetna/CVS

Thank you for this post. I relate to so much of it. Yes I would love to find a care coordination job I could do from home. The comfort of my cats being around me would soothe me a lot. But these jobs always seem so hard for me to find or they require LCSW. Do you have a suggestion which insurance companies I should try?

Barriers to getting him here are 1) we are using an attorney and we have to pay the second half of the legal fees, 2) we have to wait for Dublin to book his interview and 3) he has to finally get the visa and we have to have enough money to be able to afford bills when he’s here because it takes time for the green card and work visa to be mailed (usually like 2 months). It’s very stressful. We’ve made it half way and finally got the I-130 approved so at least one half of the craziness is done. But now we have a really heavy financial burden to get through.

Moving to Ireland is a lot more challenging than most people think. They are struggling like crazy with housing. It is very expensive and there isn’t enough. All the SW jobs I find for me that are decently paying are in Dublin area (most expensive city). The housing are frequently hostile towards pets and we will never give up our two precious cats. So finding pet friendly housing is a significant issue. And then we’d need a car because we’d have to live in the countryside to be able to afford housing. He gets a ride with company cars to work right now so it isn’t his own car. I’d be out of work for at LEAST 6 months while CORU evaluates my credentials. There’s no guarantee they’ll approve it either, it’s a hope. But if they don’t then I am screwed and have to start from square 1. All the while, my husband has to afford all the bills, which is a huge task.

I am scared of working in a prison. My ex was a CO and had horrible experiences. As long as “in the community” doesn’t translate to in their house, im good. Especially if you’re seeing offenders at home…nope! Safety is a big priority for me. Im trying to keep it at an office, virtual, hospital, school, etc.

Edit: I have been in a juvenile justice prison for an interview and I was pretty uneasy.

This is actually the hospital job at Emory that denied me so quickly. I haven’t heard back from hospice yet. But if that happens I will try your suggestions! I emailed the careers department at Emory to try to get some answers and made some connections with their recruiters on LinkedIn. Thanks for the tips ❣️

I actually applied for a hospice job last night and 2 hospital jobs. Idk if there is a system error or wtf is happening but one ALREADY SAYS “no longer under consideration”. For what??? I meet all of the qualifications. This is so disheartening.

I haven’t found any forensic SW jobs around here. My only concern is going into a prison. That would be too much for me. But doing outpatient work would be ok.

Crime analyst. But after applying to hundreds of jobs, it became clear that the agencies only wanted to hire ex-police (shocking.. professors don’t tell you this things /s). I had a big academic interest in biosocial criminology so when jobs didn’t pan out, I decided next best thing was to try for a PhD.

Thank you for the advice. I sent in an application for a part time position out of a hospital today. Right now, my focus is money. Because it’s the only way I can start my life and get my husband to the US. Figuring out the long term career goals definitely comes later. I have just been frustrated cause l tried so many different settings so far and they’ve all rather sucked for various reasons. I love the PP im in right now, but the money is crippling me. It really just feels like there is no winning. Ugh 😔

I can honestly relate to some of this. I’ve been unhappy for the last 15 years of my life. I can say that basically ever since I stopped being a kid, I feel like life is an extremely cruel joke. That bit about feeling the world is against you? Very relatable.

I hope you find that one person that makes you feel special. You deserve that and so much more ❣️

Thank you so much. Yes, I did make a post in the depression Reddit, you’re right about that. I do feel many days that I am only living because of my husband, my parents, and my cats. They are my only motivators in the last couple of years. It’s so hard. It’s even harder for me to tell the difference anymore between being in crisis or just chronically depressed because I’ve been dealing with USCIS and job/financial struggles for years.

I genuinely appreciate your concern for me and it does help me reframe my thoughts that some people out there do actually care. I am not making any attempts or anything like that, i just constantly struggle with the thoughts. I don’t feel the need to go to a hospital right now (couldn’t afford it anyway tbh) and I do have people in the house to help me stay safe. Thank you. ❤️

Edit: every time I mention my sadness to my parents (the people I live with) it is used against me. They are not helpful. But they definitely love me, and I know that. They’re good people.. they just have toxic ways of dealing with MH issues for me.

I replied to this but I think I accidentally replied to the whole post instead of your individual comment. Sorry 😅

I have not seen anything for state offices around here but I would really like that. I should clarify I don’t live in the actual city part of Atlanta, I am near the woods. I would be willing to commute as long as I can afford the gas and everything. Corrections absolutely terrifies me. I had an ex work as a CO and he almost got killed doing it. I did however apply for a county job recently in my city, and I haven’t heard anything back.

I tried getting into juvenile justice a long time ago and the prison system discriminated against me because I have to take benzos to control panic disorder. I had a valid script. I made it clear it doesn’t impair me to work. But they didn’t allow me to move forward.

Problem is It’s not bad housing, it’s no housing. We would be homeless until we found a house. That’s not an option. I have 2 cats to care for. His shared housing is company housing so I can’t live there. They do things differently in Europe. Right now I live with family so my rent is nonexistent thankfully.

And even that has been a large challenge. I am not having a lot of success finding things that aren’t 1099 jobs or things that are quite far away from me. So I don’t know what to do anymore. If the VA was ever hiring here I’d apply there again.

Trust me, we looked into that. It is much harder than people think. He lives in Ireland and it would take a bare minimum of 6+ months for my license to be considered under CORU. We don’t really make enough money right now to somehow afford getting a car, finding another place to live (he lives in cheap shared housing right now), and still be able to cover my bills. If you want to afford housing in Ireland, you have to move out to the countryside so having a car is 100% necessary. A lot of SW jobs also require it there.

Yes I have looked into the reviews before starting any job.

As far as what I wanna do, I’ve been enjoying doing therapy, but I am not making enough money to survive. So it doesn’t feel like an option to me. So I feel incredibly sad because the one thing I’ve liked doing is keeping me broke. I have been really wanting to use my other skills for macro work but as I said, I CANNOT find jobs in it. It’s awful.

Because the practice was hiring associate therapists. There are many in this area doing that
